We use informatics, mathematics, computation, and biology to drive our research. As a tenant of the University of Virginia Research Park, our main office will be headquartered at 994 Research Park Blvd. Charlottesville, VA 22911 and has about 250 workspaces spread across three floors. We also have a temporary office in Blacksburg, VA and a permanent research operation located in Arlington, VA. We have addressed the performance standards of Zoning Ordinance Section 18-4.14 as follows: Noise: Our operation will not create sound or impact noise levels in excess of the values specified in Section 4.14.1. We are in a remote location north of the Charlottesville/Albemarle Airport. Our major sources of noise are telephones and web conferences, which are generally confined to office space, conference and video -conference rooms. In the unlikely event that any noise from our operations occurs beyond our offices, we anticipate the heavy construction taking place in the vicinity of our building will obscure any noises that may inadvertently come from our offices. Vibration: We operate no heavy equipment in our offices. Glare: Our operation is completely contained within the building. The interior lighting associated with this operation does not produce glare that is visible beyond the lot line. Air Pollution: There wilI be no emission of smoke, odor, or gaseous pollutants. Water Pollution: No liquid wastes will be generated by this operation. Our operation does not represent a hazard to water quality. Biocomplexity Institute I PO Box 400298 1 Charlottesville, VA 22904 biocomplexity.virginia.edu j jJNIVERSITYof VIRGINIA BIOCOMPLEXITY INSTITUTE ,Radioactivity: Our operation does not require handling of radioactive materials. There will be no radioactive emissions. Electrical Interference: Our operation does not require any equipment that would generate electrical disturbances. You'll need to make sure that Todd gets a copy of the application, as indicated on the last page. Below are the responses from BII for the Applicant Information section. I'm not sure if you want to type or write this in. the proposed business including use: The Biocomplexity Institute and Initiative is a research institute at the University of Virginia. The bulk of the research is computationally -based, and performed collaboratively among the Institute's faculty and staff. There is also a wet lab space on the 411 floor of the building to be used to conduct biological research at the BSL 1 or 2 level. As a university institute, we will work with EH&S as specific research topics are determined for this space. number of employees: Full-time Part-time/student workers:' Both of these numbers are subject to change throughout the year with ongoing hiring and when various experiential student programs occur.. number of shifts: Normal work hours are 8-5, M-F, but students, visitors and collaborators will come and go throughout the day. There will be instances where some may necessarily work after regular business hours on their own accord. number of vehicles: ~At leasWor full-time staff, but there will be more with students and other part-time workers on -site. (I would say affitft_864at any given time is a fairly good guess.)
