Dear Mr. Langille:
The Department of Transportation, Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use
Section, has reviewed the above referenced plan as submitted by Meridian Planning Group, LLC,
dated 25 July 2019, revised 25 September 2019, and offer the following comments.
Please provide per Joel Kauppila meeting on 12/18:
1. Please evaluate if the wall may be eliminated from the right of way. VDOT will only
approve walls inside the right of way if the County is willing to put it under permit for
maintenance.
2. The existing guardrail will likely need to be removed, however safety hand rail may be
necessary.
3. Based on field observations of drainage issues VDOT recommends installing CG-7 along
Route 631 north of the entrance in conjunction with a drainage inlet. This will allow the
area to be more readily stabilize.
4. There is information essential to work within the right of way that appears only on a "for
Reference Only" sheet. This is not acceptable.
5. It is not clear what changes to the guardrail in the vicinity are necessary or approved.
Any new or modified elements must meet current VDOT standards..
A VDOT Land Use Permit will be required prior to any work within the right-of-way. The
owner/developer must contact the Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use
Section at (434) 422-9399 for information pertaining to this process. If further information is
