West- Initial Site Plan Review #1 Dear Mr. Langille: The Department of Transportation, Charlottesville Residency Transportation & Land Use Section has reviewed the above referenced plan as submitted by Shimp Engineering, dated 04 November 2019, and offers the following comments: 1. Please show mill and overlay on plans in accordance with WP-2, please add WP-2, detail to plans. Please show mill and overlay to the adjacent travel lane. 2. Work will require working in the center of the roadway, please provide MOT plan in accordance with the 2019 revised Virginia Work Area Protection Manual. 3. Please refer to VDOT's Road Design Manual appendix F., Pg., F-114, for design criteria on Commercial Entrance Channelization Island for right in/right out. • Width of Island needs to be a minimum of 50 ft. • Radii needs to be 30 ft., minimum. • Curb return to the edge of pavement needs to be 12 ft. • Both lanes needs to be a minimum of 15 ft. 4. The proposed shared entrance doesn't meet the minimum downstream corner clearance of 225 ft., as proposed an access management exception is required. Please show spacing to shared entrance. 5. Please show more detail at entrance north to Berkmar drive, e.g. (adjoining parcels, existing entrances.) Also, please show more detail on the existing road to include lane widths, turn lanes, grading, etc. 6. Is the North arrow shown correctly? 7. The trip generation table on the cover does not match uses shown on the plan. 8. The proposed landscaping should not be placed within 30' of an entrance or intersection. 9. Any sidewalk that is not fully inside the right of way will not be maintained by VDOT. 10. Please include turn lane warrant as appropriate. Please provide two copies of the revised plan along with a comment response letter. If further information is desired, please contact Willis C. Bedsaul at 434-422-9866. A VDOT Land Use Permit will be required prior to any work within the right of way.
