Commissioner COMMONWEALTH of VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION 1601 Orange Road Culpeper Virginia 22701 February 25, 2020 County of Albemarle Department of Community Development 40I McIntire Road Charlottesville, VA 22902 Attn: Megan Nedostup Re: Regents School of Charlottesville — Initial Site Plan SP-2020-00010 Review #I Dear Ms. Nedostup: The Department of Transportation, Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use Section, has reviewed the above referenced plan as submitted by Shimp Engineering, dated 21 January 2020, and offers the following comments: Land use 1. Please add road name, route number, ADT, design/posted speed. 2. Please refer to the VDOT Road Design Manual, appendix F, access management design standards for entrances and intersections. Minimum width for commercial entrances needs to be 30 ft., or greater. Minimum curb radii needs to be 25 ft. 3. Please show mill and overlay on plans in accordance with WP-2 and show limits of mill and overlay. Also please add the detail to the plans. 4. The mill and overlay will require work to the centerline, so flagging operations will be necessary. Please provide MOT plan in Accordance with Virginia Work Area Protection Manual. 5. Please see Road Design Manual appendix F- access management design standards for entrances and intersections, figure 4-10, commercial entrance design. 6. Please provide a right and left turn lane warrant analyses as shown in appendix F- pg., F-96. 7. Please refer to appendix F- pg., F-109, for the appropriate design vehicle and turning radius by land use. PIease provide auto turn analyses. 8. Please provide ditch line calculations. Also please show the appropriate culvert pipe at proposed entrances. 9. CD's 1-2 may be needed during construction of Reservoir road. 10. Note that the final site plan must show conformance with the VDOT Road Design Manual Appendices B ( 1) and F, as well as any other applicable standards, regulations or other requirements. 11. Please provide sight distance profiles. 12. PIease provide details for road widening.
