Svoboda County of Albemarle Department of Community Development 401 McIntire Road, Charlottesville, VA 22902 Dear Mr. Svoboda: I realize you have been in touch with Cliff Harrison who is assisting us with the construction of covered outdoor education platforms for our Pre School `Fresh Air' program. This project has been informed by recent changes in pedagogy for our youngest learners: that is, they thrive in the outdoors as a significant part of their learning environment. This fresh air approach is also compatible with all that we now know about our current crisis with Covid i9 and the benefits of fresh air and social distancing. To that end, we are planning on utilizing seven 12' x 12' covered platforms that Cliff Harrison is assisting us plan and construct. Please note that these platforms are not situated on permanent foundations, although they are tethered to the ground. They are potentially moveable, but we are very pleased with their planned locations that create a sense of community while maintaining safe distancing among the platforms. Cliff and I have shown the location of these platforms on the Gloeckner site plan that dates to 2008 and the original construction of our Learning Village, kindly provided by you and your office; we also have completed and included the "Application for Letter of Revision." Additionally, we have filed a building application and a set of plans for the platforms. Our School is scheduling our reopening on August 201h, with some students coming on the 18th and 19th for orientation. Thus, our time frame is compressed, and we ask that this process be expedited as much as possible so that these platforms will be available by the start of school.
