Brich, P.E. 1401 East Broad Street (804) 7862701 Commissioner Richmond, Virginia 23219 Fax: (804) 786.2940 July 29, 2020 County of Albemarle Department of Community Development 401 McIntire Road Charlottesville, VA 22902 Attn: Chris Perez Re: Sleep Number — Final Site Plan SUB-2020-00054 Review # 1 Dear Mr. Perez: The Department of Transportation, Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use Section, has reviewed the above referenced plan as submitted by Collins Engineering, dated 10 July 2020 and offer the following comments: 1. Proposed entrance does not meet the minimum spacing distance required. Please see VDOT's Road Design Manual appendix F., pg., F-23, minimum spacing distance standards for commercial entrances and intersections and median crossovers. As proposed an AM-E will be required. 2. Right of Way Dedication will need to be conveyed and deeded to the commonwealth of Virginia prior to final site plan approval. 3. The concrete path shown does not meet VDOT standards for a shared use path, nor does it connect to a VDOT shared use path on either end. VDOT will only maintain pedestrian facilities that meet our design standards. We recommend installation of a standard 5 ft. wide sidewalk here. Please provide two copies of the revised plan along with a comment response letter. If further information is desired, please contact Willis Bedsaul at 434-422-9866. A VDOT Land Use Permit will be required prior to any work within the right-of-way.
