The Department of Transportation, Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use
Section, has reviewed the above referenced plan as submitted by Timmons Group, dated 1 C
August 2020, and offer the following comments:
Land use
1. The minimum radius for a school bus is 45ft., please refer to VDOT's Road Design
Manual Appendix B(1)-pg.,18, for school bus access road.
2. The required shoulder slope for a school bus access road in a rural area needs to be 4:1.
3. What's the purpose for the emergency access entrance? We recommend using the
parking lot to minimize entrances onto route 810.
4. Please show mill and overlay on plans in accordance with WP-2 and add the detail to the
plans.
5. The mill and overlay will require work to centerline, so flagging operation will be
necessary.
6. Please note that the proposed entrance must show conformance with the VDOT Road
Design Manual appendices B (1) and (F), as well as any other applicable standards,
Regulations or other requirements.
A VDOT Land Use Permit will be required prior to any work within the right-of-way. The
owner/developer must contact the VDOT Charlottesville Residency Land Use Section at
(434) 422-9399 for information pertaining to this process.
