GENERAL NOTES:
1. A DISTINCTION BETWEEN NEW AND EXISTING MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT AND
STRUCTURES HAS BEEN MADE ON THE DRAWINGS BY LINE WEIGHT AND/OR
DENSITY. HEAVY REPRESENTS NEW. LIGHT AND/OR SCREENED REPRESENTS
EXISTING.
2. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE TO MAKE ALL MEASUREMENTS NECESSARY TO
LOCATE, FABRICATE, ERECT, CONSTRUCT AND OTHERWISE PROVIDE ALL NEW
WORK IN LOCATIONS SHOWN AND RELOCATE AND REWORK EXISTING WORK AS
REQUIRED FOR A COMPLETE TROUBLE -FREE OPERATING INSTALLATION.
3. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE TO FABRICATE, ERECT, CONSTRUCT AND

CONTRACTOR IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE TO MAKE ANY ADJUSTMENTS IN
FABRICATION, ERECTION, CONSTRUCTION AND INSTALLATION NECESSARY TO
CONSTRUCT AND FIT NEW WORK AND RELOCATIONS TO EXISTING CONDITIONS
AND LOCATIONS TO CONFORM TO THE ARRANGEMENTS AND GENERAL DESIGN
SHOWN. ADJUSTMENTS PROPOSED OR CONTEMPLATED BY THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL CONFORM TO REQUIREMENTS AND STANDARDS OF THE CONTRACT
DOCUMENTS.
4. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE TO MAKE RELOCATIONS SHOWN TO MATCH
THE MATERIAL AND QUALITY OF THE WORK TO BE RELOCATED. RELOCATIONS
SHOWN ARE TO BE ARRANGED TO PRODUCE PERFORMANCE, UTILITY AND
ACCESS EQUAL TO THE EXISTING WORK.
5. AN ASTERISK (*) AT NEW CONSTRUCTION DENOTES LOCATIONS, ELEVATIONS,
DIMENSIONS AND OTHER INFORMATION DEPENDENT ON THE CONTRACTOR'S
SUBMITTALS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL DEVELOP AND SHOW THE INFORMATION
MARKED WITH AN ASTERISK (*) ON HIS SUBMITTALS. ALL INFORMATION FOR
ASTERISKS (*) ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO DEVELOP AND
ASSURE COMPATIBLE INTERFACING FOR A COMPLETE, COORDINATED AND
TROUBLE -FREE OPERATING INSTALLATION. ALL REQUIREMENTS HEREIN SHALL BE
BASED ON FINAL PROCESSING AND/OR REVIEW OF THE CONTRACTORS
SUBMITTALS OR SELECTIONS.
6. LOCATIONS, ELEVATIONS AND DIMENSIONS OF EXISTING PIPING, EQUIPMENT,
STRUCTURES AND OTHER EXISTING WORK ARE BASED ON INFORMATION
FURNISHED BY VARIOUS SOURCES, INCLUDING EXISTING RECORD DRAWINGS AND
CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, AND IN SOME INSTANCES FIELD MEASUREMENTS.
LOCATIONS, ELEVATIONS AND DIMENSIONS OF NEW WORK CONNECTING OR
ADJACENT TO OR INTERFACING WITH EXISTING WORK HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED
AND ARRANGED BASED ON THE FOREGOING INFORMATION AND FIELD
MEASUREMENTS. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE TO FIELD CHECK AND
MEASURE LOCATIONS, ELEVATIONS AND DIMENSIONS AND TO FIT THE NEW WORK
TO ACTUAL EXISTING LOCATIONS, ELEVATIONS AND DIMENSIONS FOR A COMPLETE
AND TROUBLE -FREE OPERATING FACILITY.
7. THE EXISTING GRADE ELEVATIONS SHOWN ARE APPROXIMATE. WHERE ACTUAL
ELEVATIONS AND LOCATIONS ARE NECESSARY FOR THE WORK, THE CONTRACTOR
IS RESPONSIBLE TO FIELD MEASURE AND CHECK EXISTING GRADE ELEVATIONS.
8. EXISTING FACILITIES AFFECTED BY THE CONTRACTOR IN PERFORMANCE OF THE
WORK UNDER THIS CONTRACT SHALL BE JOINTLY INSPECTED BY THE RIVANNA
WATER AND SEWER AUTHORITY AND CONTRACTOR PRIOR TO STARTING WORK. IT
SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO REPAIR, MODIFY,
UPGRADE, PROTECT, SUPPLEMENT OR SUPPORT EXISTING FACILITIES TO OBTAIN
THE DEGREE OF SERVICE REQUIRED BY THE CONTRACTOR TO PERFORM THE
WORK. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL RETURN EXISTING FACILITIES TO ITS
FUNCTIONAL EQUIVALENCY FOUND PRIOR TO THE START OF THE CONTRACTOR'S
WORK TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE ENGINEER.
9. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL LIMIT ALL CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS TO WITHIN
PUBLIC RIGHTS -OF -WAY AND THE LIMITS OF CONSTRUCTION SHOWN.
10. ALL WORK AND COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH COMPLIANCE WITH THESE GENERAL
NOTES SHALL BE INCLUDED IN THE PRICES BID FOR THE VARIOUS CONTRACT
ITEMS AND NO SEPARATE PAYMENT WILL BE MADE THEREFOR.
11. EXISTING FACILITIES SHALL BE REMOVED TO THE EXTENT SHOWN AND SPECIFIED
AND AS NEEDED TO BE COMPATIBLE WITH AND ACCOMMODATE NEW WORK OR
REPLACEMENT WORK.
12. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE TO ACCEPT ALL EXISTING FACILITIES FOR
WORK IN THE STATUS AND CONDITIONS THAT OCCUR WHEN WORK AT THE
FACILITY COMMENCES. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM ALL WORK
NECESSARY TO PREPARE AND MAINTAIN THE EXISTING FACILITIES AS NEEDED TO
PERFORM ALL WORK UNDER THE CONTRACT. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE
TO REMOVE AWAY FROM THE SITE OF THE WORK TO HIS OWN PLACE OF
DISPOSAL ALL EXCESS ITEMS, MATERIAL AND SUBSTANCES REMOVED. AS PART
OF THIS WORK THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE TO FURNISH ALL DESIGN,
FABRICATION, ERECTION, LABOR, EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS AND SERVICES.
13. DESCRIPTIONS NOTED ON PLAN SHEETS REFER TO THE TYPE OF EXISTING
SURFACE ONLY. ALL SURFACE RESTORATION SHALL BE IN KIND, UNLESS
OTHERWISE SHOWN OR SPECIFIED, AND SHALL MATCH EXISTING GRADE, SHAPE,
THICKNESS, SIZE, QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE.
14. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE AT LEAST 72 HOURS NOTICE TO ALL THE
VARIOUS PRIVATE AND MUNICIPAL AGENCIES IN ORDER TO PERMIT THE LOCATION
OF EXISTING UNDERGROUND AND OVERHEAD UTILITIES IN ADVANCE OF
CONSTRUCTION, BY CALLING MISS UTILITY (1-800-552-7001) OR, IF
NECESSARY, BY CONTACTING THE AGENCIES INDIVIDUALLY.
15. WHEREVER ANY ABANDONED CONDUITS OR PIPES ARE CUT OR BROKEN DURING
CONSTRUCTION THEY SHALL BE FILLED WITH GROUT OR CLASS D CONCRETE
AND SUITABLE BULKHEADS, AS DETERMINED BY THE ENGINEER. GROUT,
CONCRETE AND BULKHEADS SHALL BE INSTALLED SO THAT NO MOVEMENT,
SETTLEMENT OR LOSS OF BACKFILL MATERIAL SHALL OCCUR.
16. DIMENSIONS NOTED BY A DOUBLE ASTERISK (**) SHALL BE CHECKED BY THE
CONTRACTOR TO OBTAIN ACTUAL FIELD MEASUREMENTS AND DIMENSIONS AND
CONSTRUCTION ADJUSTED TO FIT NEW CONSTRUCTION TO ACTUAL LOCATIONS OF
EXISTING CONSTRUCTION AS SHOWN AND REQUIRED.
17. IF THERE IS DISAGREEMENT IN WORK SHOWN OR SPECIFIED SUCH
DISAGREEMENT SHALL BE RESOLVED BY APPLYING THE PRECEDENCE IN THE
CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE TO PROVIDE THE
MINIMUM WORK NEEDED TO SATISFY FUNCTIONAL, CONTROL AND INTERFACING
REQUIREMENTS AND PROVIDE A TROUBLE -FREE OPERATING INSTALLATION UNDER
THE PRECEDENCE.
18. IN COMPLYING WITH ALL RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS UNDER THESE
GENERAL NOTES, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL DESIGNS, LABOR,
EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES NEEDED FOR SUCH COMPLIANCE.

19. TRANSPORT AND DISPOSE OF SURPLUS EXCAVATED MATERIAL AND EXCAVATED
MATERIAL UNSUITABLE FOR BACKFILLING OR EMBANKMENTS TO AN APPROVED
OFF SITE DISPOSAL LOCATION. OBTAIN THE OFF SITE DISPOSAL LOCATION.
SUBMIT RELEASE FROM PROPERTY OWNER OF OFF -SITE DISPOSAL LOCATION
AFTER ALL CONTRACTOR WORK IS COMPLETED OR PRIOR TO FINAL INSPECTION.
20. ALL ROADWAY CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS SHALL CONFORM WITH STANDARDS
AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND
TRANSPORTATION'S LATEST EDITION, EXCEPT WHERE ALBEMARLE COUNTY
STANDARDS ARE APPLICABLE, OR AS SPECIFIED OTHERWISE.
21. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY AND OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM THE AUTHORITY
72 HOURS PRIOR TO MAKING ANY ADJUSTMENTS TO THE WATER OR SEWER
SYSTEMS.
22. THE LOCATIONS OF ALL EXISTING UTILITIES AND LATERAL CONNECTIONS SHOWN
ON THE PLAN ARE APPROXIMATE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE
FOR LOCATING UTILITIES ALONG THE LINE OF HIS WORK AND PROTECTING OR
RELOCATING SAID UTILITIES AS REQUIRED.
23. AFTER NEW SANITARY SEWER IS IN FULL OPERATION, FILL EXISTING SANITARY
SEWERS WITH FLOWABLE FILL INCLUDING ABANDONED JUNCTION BOXES AND
MANHOLES.
24. ABANDON EXISTING MANHOLES WHERE SHOWN.
25. CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCES FROM PUBLIC ROADWAYS SHALL HAVE SIGNS
COMPLYING WITH VDOT AND COUNTY REGULATIONS ON EACH APPROACH
DIRECTION.
26. RESTORE ACCESSES AND STAGING AREAS EQUAL TO PRECONSTRUCTION
CONDITIONS. IF GRANULAR MATERIAL IS USED IN THE STAGING AREAS, REMOVE
TOP 4" OF SOIL AND STOCKPILE PRIOR TO PLACING GRANULAR MATERIAL. AT
END OF CONSTRUCTION COMPLETELY REMOVE GRANULAR MATERIAL, REPLACE
STOCKPILED SOIL AND SEED AND MULCH DISTURBED STAGING AREA. PROVIDE
DUST CONTROL IN STAGING AREAS AND ACCESS ROADS. NO ERODIBLE
MATERIALS SHALL BE STORED IN STAGING AREAS. COMPLY WITH APPLICABLE
EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL STANDARDS.
27. MANHOLES SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED 18 INCHES ABOVE EXISTING GRADE UNLESS
OTHERWISE SPECIFIED OR SHOWN ON DRAWINGS.
28. FIELD SURVEY MANHOLES AND ADJUST NUMBER AND LOCATIONS OF SERVICE
LINES INTO THE MANHOLE PRIOR TO SUBMISSION OF SHOP DRAWINGS.
29. ALL LIMITS OF DISTURBANCE AND EDGE OF EASEMENTS SHALL BE FIELD
LOCATED AND MARKED WITH EITHER SILT FENCE, BARRIER TAPE, OR FLAGGING.
ALL MARKINGS SHALL REMAIN IN PLACE WHILE WORK IN THE CURRENT DIVISION
IS BEING COMPLETED. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT WORK OUTSIDE OF THE
MARKINGS.
30. PROVIDE TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCES AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE SITE
ALONG THE EASEMENT AT THE END OF THE PUBLIC AND/OR PAVED ROAD.
31. CONTRACTOR SHALL USE DUE DILIGENCE TO MINIMIZE CONSTRUCTION
DISTURBANCE TO EXISTING EASEMENT AREAS WHICH ARE OUTSIDE EASEMENTS
AND WORKING LIMITS SHOWN ON PLANS. MINIMAL DISTURBANCE WILL BE
PERMITTED WHEN NECESSARY FOR TIE-INS AND EXISTING STRUCTURES
ABANDONMENT. DISTURBANCE OF EXISTING EASEMENT AREAS OUTSIDE OF
EASEMENT AND WORKING LIMITS SHOWN SHALL BE SUBJECT TO ENGINEER
APPROVAL.
32. ADDITIONAL PROPERTY FOR LAY DOWN OR STAGING DURING CONSTRUCTION IS
CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY.
CVEC GENERAL NOTES:
1. THE MINIMUM DISTANCE REQUIRED BY OSHA SHALL BE MAINTAINED BETWEEN
ELECTRICAL CONDUCTORS AND ANY PART OF THE ENCROACHMENT OR
EQUIPMENT USED IN THE INSTALLATION OR MAINTENANCE OF THE
ENCROACHMENT. THE MINIMUM CLEARANCE SHALL BE GOVERNED BY THE
CLEARANCE REQUIRED FOR THE 230 kV LINE.
2. DO NOT STORE MATERIAL OR EQUIPMENT ON THE CVEC RIGHT-OF-WAY.
3. PROVIDE RWSA AT LEAST 10 DAYS ADVANCE NOTICE OF ANY ACTIVITIES BEING
PERFORMED WITHIN CVEC RIGHT-OF-WAY.
4. BLASTING ON RIGHT-OF-WAY IS TO BE AVOIDED IF POSSIBLE, BUT IF
UNAVOIDABLE, A MINIMUM EXPLOSIVE CHARGE AND MATTING MUST BE USED TO
PREVENT DAMAGE. NOTICE MUST BE GIVEN TO RWSA AND CVEC 5 DAYS IN
ADVANCE OF ANY BLASTING.
5. MOTOR VEHICLES MAY BE PARKED ON THE RIGHT-OF-WAY PROVIDED THAT
THEY DO NOT EXCEED A HEIGHT OF 13'-6", ARE NOT HOUSE, OFFICE OR
CONSTRUCTION TRAILERS, DO NOT CARRY EXPLOSIVES OR FLAMMABLE CARGO,
ARE OPERATIVE AND THE PARKING IS OF A TRANSIENT NATURE, AND SHALL
HAVE CURRENT INSPECTION DECALS AND SHALL NOT VIOLATE ANY LOCAL
ORDINANCES.

GENERAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES FOR EROSION
AND SEDIMENT CONTROL PLANS:
1. THE PLAN APPROVING AUTHORITY MUST BE NOTIFIED ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE PRE -CONSTRUCTION
CONFERENCE, ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF LAND DISTURBING ACTIVITY, AND ONE WEEK
PRIOR TO THE FINAL INSPECTION.
2. ALL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL MEASURES WILL BE CONSTRUCTED AND MAINTAINED ACCORDING
TO MINIMUM STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THE VIRGINIA EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL
HANDBOOK AND VIRGINIA REGULATIONS VR 625-02-00 EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL REGULATIONS.
3. ALL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL MEASURES ARE TO BE PLACED PRIOR TO OR AS THE FIRST STEP
IN CLEARING.
4. A COPY OF THE APPROVED EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL PLAN SHALL BE MAINTAINED ON THE SITE
AT ALL TIMES.
5. PRIOR TO COMMENCING LAND DISTURBING ACTIVITIES IN AREAS OTHER THAN INDICATED ON THESE PLANS
(INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, OFF -SITE BORROW OR WASTE AREAS), THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
SUBMIT A SUPPLEMENTARY EROSION CONTROL PLAN TO THE OWNER FOR REVIEW AND APPROVAL BY
THE PLAN APPROVING AUTHORITY.
6. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR INSTALLATION OF ANY ADDITIONAL EROSION CONTROL MEASURES
NECESSARY TO PREVENT EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION AS DETERMINED BY THE PLAN APPROVING
AUTHORITY.
7. ALL DISTURBED AREAS ARE TO DRAIN TO APPROVED SEDIMENT CONTROL MEASURES AT ALL TIMES
DURING LAND DISTURBING ACTIVITIES AND DURING SITE DEVELOPMENT UNTIL FINAL STABILIZATION IS
ACHIEVED.
8. DURING DEWATERING OPERATIONS, WATER WILL BE PUMPED INTO AN APPROVED FILTERING DEVICE.
9. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL INSPECT ALL EROSION CONTROL MEASURES PERIODICALLY AND AFTER EACH
RUNOFF PRODUCING RAINFALL EVENT. ANY NECESSARY REPAIRS OR CLEANUP TO MAINTAIN THE
EFFECTIVENESS OF THE EROSION CONTROL DEVICES SHALL BE MADE IMMEDIATELY.
10. ALL FILL MATERIAL TO BE TAKEN FROM AN APPROVED, DESIGNATED BORROW AREA.
11. ALL WASTE MATERIALS SHALL BE TAKEN TO AN APPROVED WASTE AREA. EARTH FILL SHALL BE INERT
MATERIALS ONLY, FREE OF ROOTS, STUMPS, WOOD, RUBBISH, AND OTHER DEBRIS.
12. BORROW OR WASTE AREAS ARE TO BE RECLAIMED WITHIN 7 DAYS OF COMPLETION PER ZONING
ORDINANCE SECTION 5.1.28.
13. ALL INERT MATERIALS SHALL BE TRANSPORTED IN COMPLIANCE WITH SECTION 13-301 OF THE CODE OF
ALBEMARLE.
14. BORROW, FILL OR WASTE ACTIVITY INVOLVING INDUSTRIAL -TYPE POWER EQUIPMENT SHALL BE LIMITED TO
THE HOURS OF 7:OOAM TO 9:OOPM.
15. BORROW, FILL OR WASTE ACTIVITY SHALL BE CONDUCTED IN A SAFE MANNER THAN MAINTAINS LATERAL
SUPPORT, OR ORDER TO MINIMIZE ANY HAZARD TO PERSONS, PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO ADJACENT LAND
AND IMPROVEMENTS, AND DAMAGE TO ANY PUBLIC STREET BECAUSE 0 SLIDES, SINKING, OR COLLAPSE.
16. THE DEVELOPER SHALL RESERVE THE RIGHT TO INSTALL, MAINTAIN, REMOVE OR CONVERT TO
PERMANENT STORMWATER MANAGEMENT FACILITIES WHERE APPLICABLE ALL EROSION CONTROL MEASURES
REQUIRED BY THIS PLAN REGARDLESS OF THE SALE OF ANY LOT, UNIT, BUILDING OR OTHER PORTION
OF THE PROPERTY.
17. TEMPORARY STABILIZATION SHALL BE TEMPORARY SEEDING AND MULCHING. SEEDING IS TO BE AT 75
LBS/ACRE, AND IN THE MONTHS OF SEPTEMBER TO FEBRUARY TO CONSIST A 50/50 MIX OF ANNUAL

THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO INSTALL A ONE MILLION GALLON FLOW
EQUALIZATION TANK FOR THE LICKING HOLE CREEK PUMPING STATION (CROZET
PS #4) IN CROZET, VIRGINIA. THE CONSTRUCTION WILL INCLUDE NEW SEWER
INSTALLATION, VAULTS, MANHOLES, AND A GRAVEL ACCESS ROAD. DURING STORM
EVENTS THE TANK WILL PROVIDE STORAGE TO PREVENT DOWNSTREAM OVERFLOWS
OF COMBINED SEWAGE. THE COUNTY OF ALBEMARLE IDENTIFIED CROZET AS A
GROWTH AREA AND ARE PROACTIVELY INCREASING SEWAGE CAPACITIES TO

3. EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROLS SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH
VIRGINIA EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL HANDBOOK AND SHALL BE PLACED
PRIOR TO OR AS THE FIRST STEP OF THE LAND DISTURBING ACTIVITY.
4.EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROLS SHALL BE MAINTAINED SO THAT THE
SEDIMENT CARRYING RUNOFF FROM THE SITE WILL NOT ENTER STORM
DRAINAGE FACILITIES.
5. EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROLS SHALL BE MAINTAINED UNTIL THE
DISTURBED AREA IS STABILIZED.
6. PROPERTIES ADJOINING THE SITE SHALL BE KEPT CLEAN OF MUD OR SILT
CARRIED FROM THE SITE BY VEHICULAR TRAFFIC OR RUNOFF.
7. THE DISPOSAL OF WASTE MATERIALS REMOVED FROM EROSION AND SEDIMENT
CONTROL FACILITIES AND THE DISPOSAL OF THESE FACILITIES SHALL BE IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE VIRGINIA EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL HANDBOOK.
8. STABILIZATION MEASURES SHALL BE APPLIED TO EARTHEN STRUCTURES SUCH
AS DAMS, DIKES AND DIVERSIONS IMMEDIATELY AFTER INSTALLATION.
9. DURING CONSTRUCTION OF THE PROJECT, SOIL STOCKPILES SHALL BE
STABILIZED OR PROTECTED WITH SEDIMENT TRAPPING MEASURES. THE
