General
1. Modifications or substitutions to the specified equipment or layout must be approved by the engineer.
2. The contractor should inspect the site prior to submitting an estimate to the owner. Any potential conflicts
should be reported to the engineer. By submitting an estimate the contractor indicates that he has
investigated the site and has found no discrepancies with the plans and specifications.
3. A preconstruction conference is mandatory before starting installation of the system. Contact engineer
to discuss important aspects of installation. The engineer will not certify the system at the final inspection
unless a preconstruction conference is done prior to installation.
4. A final inspection is required - The installation must pass inspection by the engineer. Notify the engineer of
the planned inspection date in advance. Prior to final inspection the contractor should shoot all invert
elevations and take as -built triangulation measurements. The contractor shall provide as -built measurements
to all components of system to the engineer at the final inspection. The OWNER is responsible for paying
the engineer's inspection fees.
5. If adverse subsurface conditions are encountered (rock, groundwater, utilities, etc.) contact the engineer.
6. If site conditions vary contact the engineer.
7. The contractor is responsible for maintaining all set back distances as required by local ordinances and health
department and payment for all inspections by health department.
8. Installation shall be in accordance with Virginia Department of Health Sewage Handling and Disposal
regulations and in accordance with erosion and sediment control guidelines.
9. A separate Project Manual contains calculations, equipment cut sheets, etc. A separate package contains
AOSE soil information.
10. Notify "MISS Utility" prior to excavation.
Operation and Maintenance
I "the owner is required to hire a licensed operation and maintenance provider for this onsite waste treatment
system. The owner is required to record a document provided by VDH which specifies the requirement for
operation and maintenance before an operation permit can be issued.
2. The Engineer has provided an Operation and Maintenance manual for the owner. It is located in the project
manual. The engineer shall provide to the owner the inspection report and as -built sketch at the completion
of the project. The owner shall keep the Plans, Project manual, and Inspection report for future operation and
maintenance.
3. The contractor shall provide to the Engineer the installation instructions and maintenance manuals of all
approved substituted components.
4. The contractor shall provide to the owner all warranties and manufacturer information and operation and
maintenance manuals for all components.
Gravity Sewer/Effluent Main/Force Main
1. Gravity sewer from the building to the septic tank is existing/new SCH 40 4" sewer. Cleanouts every 50'.
2. Effluent mains shall be 4" SCH 40 PVC and have a slope of 6" per 100' minimum.
3. Force main and pressure piping shall be 2" SCH 40 PVC.
4. Bed and backfill pipe in stone dust under parking lot.
Tanks
1. If rock is encountered in the tank hole then tank shall be bedded with 8" #68 stone. Tank shall be backfilled
in layers with sufficient compaction (> 95% compaction) to avoid settling. Backfrll material shall be free of
debris and large stones.

Septic Tanks 1 and 2
1. Septic Tank 1 - New 1500 gallon mid seam concrete. The tank and all seams shall be waterproof.
2. Septic Tank 2 - New 1500 gallon mid seam concrete. The tank and all seams shall be waterproof.
3. The access port on the inlet/outlet end of all tanks shall have a 24" waterproof riser. The riser shall be cast in
place. risers shall extend 2" above final grade and shall be covered at the surface with a plastic, lockable,
watertight lid (EZ set or approved equal). The risers shall be 24" in diameter. H2O TRAFFIC RATED
TANKS, RISERS, AND LIDS IF TANKS ARE IN PARKING LOT.
4. Zabel A300 12x20-VC effluent filter on all tanks.
Flow Equalization Tank
1. 2500 gallon concrete mid seam pump tank as flow equalization tank. The tank and all seams shall be
waterproof. The contractor shall provide tank dimensions to Engineer.
2. Inlet to tank shall have a 4" SCH 40 PVC Sanitary TEE.
3. Effluent port # 1 to be installed on pump line per plan. The effluent port shall be easily accessible. Crack ball
valve for siphon relief
4. Flow Equalization tank shall have access manhole on the outlet ends. The risers shall extend 2" above final
grade and shall be covered at the surface with a plastic, lockable, watertight lid (EZ set or approved equal).
The risers shall be 24" in diameter. H2O TRAFFIC RATED TANKS, RISERS, AND LIDS IF TANKS
ARE IN PARKING LOT.
Flow Equalization Tank Time Dose Pump
1. Zoeller Effluent Turbine Submersible Pump IN 140 "Flow -Mate" non -automatic). Pump shall deliver 50
gpm @ 29.5 ft. Pump operation is to be controlled by timer. All electrical connections shall be hardwired in
the waterproof junction box. Use waterproof wirenuts.
2. Install 3/16 vent hole location before check valve per Zoeller recommendation
3. Motor control shall have a manual over ride switch.
4. Pump controller and alarm shall be Orenco MVP Sl/2 DM. Alarm to be audiovisual.
5. Floats to be installed on a PVC float tree secured to the riser.

Aerobic Treatment Unit
1. 2 x Aqua Safe Aerobic Treatment Unit AS 600 EZ Top by Ecological Tanks Inc. shall be installed. The tank
and all seams shall be waterproof. This tank is fiberglass and contains one chamber. The unit contains the
aerobic treatment tank.
2. Aerobic Treatment Unit Control Panel - ETI 202. Panel to control ATU and Pump time dosing.
3. Installation guide for Aqua Safe is attached.
4. Tank shall be placed level on firm, natural soil. Where rock or adverse conditions are present, tank shall be
placed on six inches of stone.
5. Tank shall be backfilled in layers with sufficient tamping to avoid settling. Backfill material shall be free of
debris and large stones.
6. Blower control panel is integrated into control panel board.
7. Contractor should be a certified Aqua Safe installer or perform work under direction of Aqua Safe
representative and start certification process.
8. Pump station piping shall be glue or screw fittings, no compression fittings permitted. Piping to be pressure
type with pressure type fittings chemically fused.
9. Aqua Safe representative: Archie Amolds 434-842-1851.

LPD Dose Pump Tank
1. New 1500 gallon, precast, mid seam concrete pump tank shall be used (minimum liquid level = 56" inlet).
The tank and all seams shall be waterproof The tank and all seams shall be waterproof. Contractor to provide
engineer gallons per inch at final inspection.
2. Pump - Orenco PF500511 High Head Pump - Pump shall deliver 50 gpm @ 40 ft.
3. Install pump in Orenco Flow Sleeve (UFI-4).

1. Traffic on pad shall be limited - avoid driving over or running heavy equipment on the drip field. Drip field
shall be flagged or fenced. DO NOT INSTALL DURING WET, ICY, OR SNOWY WEATHER DO
NOT INSTALL WHEN PAD AREA IS WET.
2. No equipment traffic in excavated pad area.
3. Pad: 20' wide x 66' long. Bottom of pad shall be level.
