A. Yancey Lumber Corporation Mr. Dellinger and Mr. Maddox I would like to follow up on our meeting of March 101h at the Albemarle County Community Development offices. I came away thinking that we had a very productive discussion, and I would like to act on that discussion in a timely manner. After discussing the various actions the company has taken to enhance the life safety aspects of these two mills, we discussed how we might address the desire to enhance the fire fighting capability on site. We were advised at the meeting that the Albemarle County Service Authority (ACSA) is in the process of upgrading the water main that runs along Rockfish Gap Turnpike. This effort by ACSA was described as an enlargement and extension along the north side of the road to a point across the road from our site. We discussed the possibility of working with ACSA and the contractor selected for this work to get a lateral line from the main extended beneath the road to a new fire hydrant on the lumber company's side of the road. It is understood that if this proposal were implemented, the fire department would have a water source in sufficient proximity to the saw mill and planing mill to allow the department to fight fire effectively without closing Rockfish Gap Turnpike. As part of our discussion, the issue of calculating the Insurance Services Office (ISO) value for the two mills was discussed. Although that calculation had not been made at the time of our meeting, our fire protection engineer has completed it and it is attached. My understanding from our discussion was that if we could implement the installation of the fire hydrant in an agreed location on the south side of the road, that would address the bulk of the concerns relative to retro-permitting the saw mill and planing mill. I also understood that you would advise us of any additional requirements necessary to issue a code modification letter and to retro-permit these two facilities. 113 FOURTH ST., NE.
