Improvements are going to me made to the existing paths to enhance accessibility for visitors and descendants. Two van accessible spaces are being added with accessible walkways to the two seating areas. The larger seating area is public for visitors of Monticello to enjoy. The smaller circular seating area is a private space with direct access to the burial grounds for descendants to have a quiet space to visit. Additionally, a new path around the perimeter of the burial ground is being added along with removal of a portion of existing parking lot. The removal of the parking lot area is to create a larger buffer space around the burial ground and will be replanted with trees and shrubs for screening. Lastly, areas of the existing pathway leading to the visitor center are showing signs of failure in the asphalt course and will be replaced as maintenance with a kafka (crushed stone with a binder) paving surface to match the rest of the work around the burial ground. Below is a bulleted list of the proposed work: • Removal and replacement of existing fence around perimeter of burial ground • Removal and rework to pathways and seating areas around the burial ground Removal of parking area and replanting for screening Rework of existing ADA accessible parking space to provide 2 van accessible spaces. One space to serve the public seating area and the other to serve the descendant seating area. Removal of select trees and replanting to screen and beautify the area. The work is about 600' away from route 53 Thomas Jefferson Pkwy and will have no impact on the entrance corridor overlay. 4anS,rely, Cichocki, PE Project Manager ENGINEERING I DESIGN I TECHNOLOGY MONTICELLO BURIAL GROUND FOR ENSLAVED PEOPLE VICINITY MAP 1It=1000' SITE LEGEND A-VLSLTOHBANp HISTORYCENTPR MATERIALLEGEND1 PAYING F mEXISTING PARKRiGiOREMABS C-EXTERIOR COURTYARD mNEW PARKP'GNRNPS D-0UTDOOR CLASSROOM PAVILION ®ASPHALT -PEDESTRIAN ®NEW1*JN1VCARDR0POFF E-SIMTLEBUSPICIC-IIPk DROP-0PF ®NEw SHUTn.EDRNEwAoPOFP G-NOT USED ®BRICK-PIDESTNAN mA0➢WmTB TO BITS PARREVG H -ACCESSIBLEPARK(NG I-TOwSCBOOLBUSPARI3NG ®BRICK -VEHICULAR ®IgA➢INGAREA/SERV[CEBAY OPICMCTABLEAREA(WOODMLIL 1-VISITORPARKA'G ®BIKE RACKAREA(S'mNEDUSt) K-LANDSCAPE L➢iK TO ®COBBLE -VEHICULAR ®PLANTERS BUMALGROUNDS ®AQUATICPOOL L-BURLALGROUND9 RETAINING WALLA ©COBBLEWHEELSTOP iMTRENCH DRAIN O-GENERALSTORAGESUD.DING TO REMAIN ®Q4" RITEUNING WALL (NOT USED) iID COBBLEHOGED CROSSWALK Q-FUELING STATION ® CURB (ASPHALT) V-STAFPPARKING ®24'T048"RETAPJMG WALL ©CUBBLECURB ®COBBLEPLUSHCUIB ®>48"RIITAWWG WALL WITIS BARRIL'R ®GREENROOP (MBEDDEDWI WD(EFEUBI ®BOLLARD ®PAINTEDASPHAIT WALK EMBEDDEDWITHIN SHRUBBERY) ®CONCRETE BLOCKRETAESINOWALL wrm BAaRtel((az^ IUTALagn) > 48" RETAINING WALL WRH BARRBR (WALL EXTEND342"ABOVE GRADE) STEPS ®1 BLUFSTONES WB'IELDSTONERISERAMIRA 08 OFIEI.DSTONESTEPS ANDRAWNGS 53 CASTINPLACECONCRETE ANDRAILWG9 I1 APPROXIMATE LETTER OF REVISION #2 PROJECT EXTENTS ILLUSTRATED ON SDP-2008-06 PROPOSED (ROUND SE DUMPSTER (7 WASTE.
