SHALL BE REQUIRED WHEN DEEMED BY THE COUNTY ENGINEER, THAT TRENCHING WILL SIGNIFICANTLY DAMAGE
FEEDER ROOTS OF TREES TO BE PRESERVED AND PROTECTED.
DAMAGED TREE & COMPACTED ROOT ZONES:
ANY DAMAGE TO THE. CROWN, TRUNK, OR ROOT SYSTEM OF ANY TREE TO BE PRESERVED AND PROTECTED SHALL
BE REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PRACTICES IN THE VIRGINIA EROSION & SEDIMENT CONTROL
HANDBOOK. CARE FOR SERIOUS INJURIES SHALL BE PRESCRIBED BY A PROFESSIONAL FORESTER OR TREE
SPECIALIST.
SOILS WHICH HAVE BEEN COMPACTED, OVER THE ROOT ZONES OF TREES TO BE PRESERVED AND PROTECTED,
SHALL BE AERATED BY PUNCHING HOLES WITH AN IRON BAR EVERY 18" OVER THE ROOT ZONE. THE BAR SHALL BE
DRIVEN 12" DEEP AND MOVED BACK AND FORTH IN EACH HOLE UNTIL THE SOIL IS LOOSENED.

PROVIDE 4" #68 STONE AT BOTTOM OF PLANTING PIT. SHAPE GRADE TO MATCH.
10. ALL PLANT BEDS SHALL BE MULCHED (3" MIN. DEPTH) AND EDGED CLEANLY WHERE ADJACENT TO ANY
EXISTING LAWN, SODDED, OR SEEDED AREA.
11. ALL GRASS WITHIN EXISTING LANDSCAPE ISLANDS SHALL BE REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH 3" SHREDDED
HARDWOOD MULCH.
12. ALL EXISTING HICKORY TREES WITHIN THE PROJECT AREA ARE TO BE REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH TREES AS
