Kevin,
I've looked everything over and I've checked in with Dade. The substitution is fine with us. I'll send you a
letter, but that may take a few more days. Let me know if you have questions.
Thanks.
Margaret

I realized you meant the Nichiha files, not the submitted PDFs.
Those are attached here. Sorry for the multiple emails!

Margaret,
Let's see if I can just attach these directly.
Let me know if these work for you. Thanks for the response on this (and thanks for the call back on Ivy
Proper).
Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks for checking in on this one, Kevin. The typical goal is to turn this sort of review around in 2
weeks, but reviews are taking longer due to us being short-staffed combined with a high level of
submittals. I hope to get this review completed by mid -week next week. I did notice that I could not
access the pdfs that were noted in the drawings. Is there a different way to provide that information?
I'm sorry for the extra work that will involve.
Thanks.
Margaret

Margaret,
Hope you're staying dry on this rainy Wednesday. I wanted to follow up on the Sapon and Swisher
material change and just ensure that all the required documents had been submitted and you had
everything you needed to make a determination with Dade on the proposed substitution. I'm not sure
how long the review of a minor amendment usually takes, or what the process looks like exactly, so
just making sure everything is in order from our end.
Thanks,
Kevi n

Margaret,
Thanks again for all your guidance. The owners have decided to move forward with the Nichiha fiber
cement architectural wall panel in Cedar.

In the folder below, I have provided the following:
-The application for minor amendment
-A narrative description / transmittal letter describing the material selection
- Revised elevations, accompanied with manufacturer's notes and standard details

I'll be dropping off a physical sample tomorrow when Community Development is open.
Thanks,

My recommendation is to choose the substitute that has the closest appearance. Submit an ARB
application for a minor amendment (Countywide Certificate of Appropriateness —staff level
review) and include a physical sample. I will want to run the change by the ARB chairperson, but
similarity in appearance/effect to the approved material is what we will be looking for.

Good Afternoon Margaret,
The Sapon and Swisher Dentistry project is currently under construction on the corner of Hydraulic
and Whitewood. Like everyone in the construction industry currently, the project is feeling the
effects of the spiking lumber costs. We've seen project quotes on lumber jump as much as 200%
on our projects about to break ground.

Lumber (USO/1000 board feet) 364.20 +1.22 (+1.22%)

Consequently, the Ipe siding that was specified at the Sapon and Swisher project is experiencing
similar cost inflation. I'm writing today to see if an alternative project that looks the same, is of the
same quality and character, but is more cost effective, could be an option.
Currently, on all the bump outs, we have Ipe shiplap siding stained with deckwise ipe oil. The
finished product looks something like this:

https:Hi.p i n i mg.com/o rigi na Is/9f/f8/e4/9ff8e44715ddOa bd27lOd2661def2b77. i pg
A product of similar quality that will be less maintenance, avoid the pitfalls of wood (cracking,
cupping, etc.) could be either the Nichiha Vintage wood in cedar:

We also have had great success with the Woodtone Rustic Series, which is a fiber cement board,
but it is only available in lap installation application.
https://woodtone.com/product/rusticseries/
Similar to this product is the Allura fiber cement product.

These are materials we are seeing regularly on Entrance Corridors and are similar in look, feel,
color, and finish of the proposed Ipe.
If you feel these are appropriate substitutions, what is the process to move forward?
Thanks for any input you may have!
Kevin

Dade,
We've received a request to revise the Ipe shiplap siding on the Sapon & Swisher
window bumpouts to Nichicha panels. The applicant's description of the change and the
drawings showing the locations of the material are attached. We never received a
physical sample of the Ipe siding. We do have a sample of the Nichiha panel. The
Vintagewood cedar color is a medium brown. Benjamin Moore Sea Life 2118-40 is the
color approved for other siding on the building. Stone approved for the building is El
Dorado Cottonwood: European Ledge. I think the substitution is fine, but would love to
have your input on the proposed change.
Thanks.
