Dear Mr. Fritz:
The Department of Transportation, Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use
Section, has reviewed the above referenced plan as submitted by Collins Engineering, dated 5
April 2021, and offers the following comments:
1. Please provide rightgeft turn lane analysis for Woodburn lane.
2. Please provide more detail, typical section for the parallel parking and the widening of
Woodburn lane.
3. Sidewalk needs to wrap around the left side of the proposed entrance on Berkmar drive,
and cross private travel way to tie into sidewalk.
4. Please provide sight distance profiles for both entrances.
5. Speed limit for Woodburn road is posted at 35 mph, and the required intersection sight
6. distance is 390'ft.
7. Please change labeling of dedication of right of way from VDOT, to County.
8. Please refer to VDOT's Road Design Manual, appendix F-pg., F-120, for commercial
entrance designs along Highways with curb & gutter.
9. Please show geometry on proposed entrances, 25ft., min. width, and 30'ft., radii.
10. Please show on proposed taper a 12' offset from edge of pavement to end of radii for
entrance onto Berkmar drive.
11. Please provide more detail on grading sheet.
12. Please provide drainage profiles on proposed drainage structures.
13. Note that the final site plan must show conformance with the VDOT Road Design
Manual Appendices B(1) and F, as well as any other applicable standards, regulations or
other requirements.
Please provide two copies of the revised plan along with a comment response letter. If further
