Hi Margaret,
I have attached the three images with the actual samples next to the comparable siding at Martha Jefferson. I think it is
helpful to see that the Monterey Taupe is a very close fit compared to the other samples. Thanks for your help in
keeping this on track.

Hi Margaret,
In driving over to MJH to pick up the material samples, I had a thought on a potential compromise. Do you have a
document showing the materials that were approved from the hospital building? I was thinking that if we matched the
tan of the hospital building, that could be a good solution for everyone. It seems that color is darker and warmer than
any of our selections and it would be totally harmonious with the hospital building. Thoughts? Do you have that
information?

Margaret;
I don't think that a change from Cobblestone to Navaho Beige adequately addresses your comment to provide a warmer
color to blend into the landscape. My opinion would be to stay with the Monterey Taupe, or even darker,to provide a
more seamless transition from the tree line on the horizon to the end elevation of the building.
Seems like an effort to go back through Board review again, but, it is an important and visible design element on this
building that needs consideration.
Thanks,
Stan

Subject: Presidio apartments color question
Stan,
The Presidio/Martha Jefferson Hospital apartments were originally included on the March 16 ARB agenda with a
recommendation for approval with conditions to be reviewed/approved by staff. During the delay in rescheduling, the
applicant resubmitted drawings addressing all of staff's conditions. As a result, I placed Presidio on the consent agenda
for May 11. One of the conditions of approval was revising the Cobblestone Hardiplank siding color to Monterey Taupe
1
because Cobblestone is a light color tnat will stand out in the landscape. The app1•..a.it offered Navajo Beige and .
Monterey Taupe as alternate colors in their resubmittal. The cover memo I drafted for the Presidio consent agenda item
notes a requirement for Monterey Taupe, which is the darkest of the colors in question. Navajo Beige falls between the
Cobblestone and Monterey Taupe. I chose Monterey Taupe because it is a darker color that I think will be less obvious in
the landscape and will coordinate better with the hospital. I learned today that the applicant's clients won't approve the
Monterey Taupe. The applicant agrees that Cobblestone is too light but have only approved Navajo Beige as a
substitute. To keep this item on the consent agenda,we'd have to approve Navajo Beige. I don't want to make this a
regular review item if others think the color issue is insignificant. Can you share your thoughts on Navajo Beige vs.
Monterey Taupe?
The applicant's memo is attached and the color swatches from that memo are copied below. (I realize colors rendered in
printouts and monitor screens aren't accurate, but the color range is informative. I can arrange to get you the physical
samples if you prefer.)Also copied below is the view from the 164 corridor with the lighter-colored end elevations that
concern me.
Thanks for your help.
