MEMORANDUM
TO: John T. P. Horne, Director, Planning and
Community Development
FROM: Patrick K. Mullaney, Director, Parks 'and RecreationA'/JJ1
RE: Parcel R - Earlysville Forest Land Trust
DATE: February 24, 1988
In regards to the request to put drainfields on the
8. 56 acre public recreation area adjacent to Earlysville
Forest, I have one main concern.
Currently, there is a need to expand recreation field
space in the Earlysville area. As we discussed earlier, it
would be preferable if this could be accommodated by
acquiring additional land around the Broadus Wood School.
As you are aware, the recent addition to the school reduced
the already limited field space. Until the possibilities
are exhausted for expansion at the Broadus Wood site, I
would not recommend that the County approve any improvements
to the property that would preclude the future construction
of playing fields on the site. As we noticed in our visit
to the site, there were several areas which appeared to be
suitable for field development and others that were not. If
the applicant could make use of these other areas, I do not
think that would be a problem.
Please call me if you have any questions or need any
additional information at this time.
