Dear Ms. Maliszewski,
Please find below responses to each of the following conditions. Please find attached with this
memo revised drawings addressing each of these conditions, revised ARB narrative booklet
and the Revised Application Submittal form.
1. Consider reducing the amount of ACM panel used in the design, increasing the use of
warmer colors, and increasing materials with greater texture.
Response: The remaining visible brick from the existing building will remain as -is instead of being
painted gray to increase the use of warmer colors and emphasize a traditional brick texture.
2. Revise the plans to include the standard window glass note: Visible light transmittance (VLT)
shall not drop below 40%. Visible light reflectance (VLR) shall not exceed 30%.
Response: The following standard note has been added to the architectural drawings:
"WINDOWS WILL NOT BE HIGHLY TINTED OR HIGHLY REFLECTIVE. AREAS OF GLAZING WILL BE REQUIRED
TO MEET COUNTY ENTRANCE CORRIDOR REQUIREMENTS. THEREFORE, STANDARD WINDOW GLASS
VISIBLE LIGHT TRANSMITTANCE (VLT) SHALL NOT DROP BELOW 40%. VISIBLE LIGHT REFLECTANCE (VLR)
SHALL NOT EXCEED 30%."
3. Indicate if any roof or building mounted equipment is proposed, show the locations, and
show how that equipment will be screened from the entrance corridor.
Response: Rxisting mechanical equipment is located on the roof of the northern side of the
existing structure. The existing mechanical equipment is currently screened by an existing
parapet wall. The following note has been added to the architectural drawings: "EXISTING
MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT TO REMAIN. PREVIOUSLY APPROVED SCREENING PARAPET TO
REMAIN AND HIDE MECHANICAL UNITS." Refer to sheet 33 in the ARB booklet.
4. Indicate if any site or building -mounted lighting is proposed with the renovations to the
building. If new lighting is proposed, provide complete details.
Response: The location of building mounted lighting has been noted in the elevation drawings.
Additionally, a lighting plan with cut sheets about the fixtures has been provided in this
submission.
5. Revise the landscape plan to show all previously approved landscaping, and further clarify
the proposal to identify plants to remain, plants to be removed, and plants to be added.
Response: The landscape plan has been revised to show the previously approved landscaping

and identifies all plants to remain. Additionally, it now identifies plants to be removed and
plants to be added.
b. Revise the landscape plan to show the correct quantity of shade trees along the parking
area adjacent to Hilton Heights Road.
Response: The landscape plan now reflects the correct quantity of shade trees along Hilton
Heights Road.
7. Revise the landscape plan to show all approved landscaping along the eastern end of the
building.
Response: Existing trees along the eastern end of the building have been identified.
8. Revise the landscape plan to include all plant species.
Response: The landscape plan now reflects all plant species, both existing and proposed.
9. Sign applications are required for all proposed signs.
Response: All signage will be required to meet Albemarle County Zoning Regulations and
Entrance Corridor Sign Design Guidelines. Sign designs will be detailed in a subsequent permit
submission.
10. Changes to coping color and sign colors could help reduce the trademark impact.
Response: The coping has been updated to a silver metallic color to help reduce the trademark
impact.
