The information given conforms to the Virginia Fire Safety Regulations except as follows: 1. All stairway enclosure doors from the interior of the building shall be fire rated door', as specified for 3/4 hour fire partitions, equipped with approved closers . All glass panels or sidelights within the exit stairway enclosures shall be 1/4-inch thick wired glass in steel frames. (Sections 404-2, 503-3, and 507-5) 2. For the exit stairways, risers shall be solid and not in excess of 7-3/4 inches in height, and treads, exclusive of nosing, shall be at least 9-inches wide; the sum of two risers plus one tread shall be at least 23--1/2 but not more than 25-inches . The stairs shall have handrails on both sides. (Sections 404-5(a) , 404-1(a) and 404-7(c)) 3. All acoustical ceiling tile and wood wall and ceiling finishes shall be certified to possess flamespread ratings of less than 200 as determined by ASTM-E84 test. (Section 505-6) 4. Exitways shall be marked with illuminated exit signs . Exits which are not readily visible from all pertinent locations shall have directional signs displayed conspicuously directing occupants thereto. (Section. 412-2) - F 5. Mechanical duct systems shall be installed in accordance with the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association Standard 90A, including approved fire dampers where so specified. (Section 509-1) Where exceptions are noted a reply to the undersigned is requested. Please contact the nearest District Engineer if in- terpretation or discussion of these exceptions is desired. This letter does not, of course, relieve the owners from meeting all applicable local regulations.
