Box 915 Lexington, VA ' 24450 SUBJECT: ' Boar's Head Inn Wastewater Treatment Lagoon Permit # VA 0029297 Albemarle County, VA Dear Mr. Moore: This is to confirm our recent telephone conversation regarding a potential increase in flow through the subject treatment facility due to facility expansion at the Boar's Head Inn. This wastewater treatment facility at the present time consists of an aerated lagoon utilizing surface aeration, gas chlorination, chlorine contact chamber and inline continuous flow recording. The existing flow from the lagoon approximates . 025 to .03 MGD, and is presently permitted for a flow rate of . 06 MGD. DOD and Suspended Solids concentrations are listed at 48 and 80 mg/1, respectively. As previous data will support, the facility has maintained effluent restrictions with only minor difficulty being encountered in the area of Suspended Solids, due to periodic high algal concentrations. The owner is, at present, in the process of securing permits from Albemarle County to enlarge the existing facility by 75 rooms, and proposes to add approximately 72 seats to the • existing restaurant operation. According to design criteria, this will create an additional flow of 9750 gallons from the rooms, plus an additional 3600 gallons per day from the restaurant addition. A detailed flow study was conducted, using manhole monitors measuring flow through Palmer-Bowles flumes from the various system users from January to March of 1977. The information obtained indicated approximately 17, 000 - 20, 000 gpd from the Boar's Head Inn and associated restaurant, and approximately 8000 - 10,000 gpd from the adjacent residential area served by this facility. No expansion of the residential area is planned or anticipated. ©ECEIV iI - -161Z • i1 r Mr. James Moore August 15, 1978 Page 2 The existing wastewater treatment facility is being operated by Environmental Systems Service, Ltd. of Culpeper, Virginia, and appropriate reports have been and continue to be filed on a monthly basis with both the State Department of health, the local Department of Sanitation and the Virginia State Water Control Board's Bridgewater office. This facility was upgraded in May, 1974 under plans and specifications submitted by John McNair and Associates of Waynesboro, VA, and has never required the utilization of more than 2/3 of the capability of the aeration equipment. These facilities must be considered interim in that the owner has secured approval from the appropriate authorities to connect all of the above mentioned system users into the expanded Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority complex when such facilities become available. It is requested that you review the above information in line with the proposed enlargement of the facilities which are served. Should you require more detailed information • than may have been supplied in previous monthly reports, or wish other details on the description of these facilities, please do not hesitate to contact me at the earliest possible time.
