Denial of this application is pursuant to section 18.4.12.15 (f) of the zoning ordinance (protective barriers and designs),which states, "When deemed necessary and reasonable to assure that safe and -convenient access is provided,the county engineer may require: (1)raised traffic islands at the ends of parking rows to protect parked vehicles and to prohibit parking in unauthorized areas. The provision of a raised traffic island has been deemed necessary. Photos #1 and #2 illustrate why. The grade is extreme and would require a minimum 8 foot 5" hiigh structural retainer wall around the curved perimeter of the peninsula to bring it up to grade. It would also have served no useful' purpose and would be an impediment to snow plowing and drainage. County inspections issued the C.O. with the peninsula deleted, but the site plan was never amended at the time. Bill Bailey (the original developer / builder) has had recent discussion with Amelia McCulley who was an on site inspector at the time. She can verify the above. > Request to amend current "Bailey Office Center"approved site plan dated Sept. 16, 1988 to delete peninsula (whited out) at the left rear corner of the site. > This peninsula was also never built during the original site developement for the same reasons as noted above. Similarly, the County issued a C.O. with the omission of this curb contour (Photos # 3 & #4). Again Amelia can confirm this fact.
