MINUTES OF MEETING OF BOARD
DECEMBER. 14TH, 1945
At the above meeting all members were present with the exception
of Mr. Randolph and Mr. Warrick.
Mr. Cockrell reported that the Board of Supervisors had
appropriated money for furniture and other incidentals.
Mrs. Smith reported that Mr. Stahl had been employed to do the
ground work for the zoning map for $1.50 per hour. Mr. C ockrell stated
the Supervisors were a little apprehensive about the outcome of the
zoning laws due to the Fairfax County ordinance having been declared
invalid,, but as we had been assured that the ordinance would be valid
if written properly, it was decided to co:tinue with the work on the map.
It was suggested that such a map would be of value to the county even if
the zoning laws were not passed.
A letter from the Surplus Property Administration was read to
the commission, and it was decided that the letter did not require an
answer.
Mrs. Smith asked Mr. Cockrell what were the plans of the School
Board. Mr. Cockrell stated that as far as he knew the School Board
planned to go through with original program and that the Judge will be
petitioned to allow the board to ask for a vote on a bond issue for the
program.
Mr. Cockrell reported that he had had a number of people ask
what the Planning Commission had done about the zoning ordinance.
Mrs. Smith stated she would like for someone else to be,Chair-
man of the Commission, but said she would wait to resign officially until
the next meeting.
The question of a Service Center for returning Veterans was
discussed.9 and in view of the information given, it was decided that
the Veterans were probably being well taken care of in Charlott4sville.
The acute housing shortage in the county was discussed, but
it was decided that the Planning Commission could not do anything about
this situation.
