JUKE 8TH, 1944
The regular meeting of the Albemarle Planning
Commission was held in Mr. Haden's office on June 8th at
3 p. m. All members v.,ere present except Per. Haden. "r.
Shelton from Richmond attended and offered further advice
as to what procedure other county c_-,mmissions are f olloy:ing.
It was decided to prepare a questionnaire —letter for Albemarle
selectees to be submitted for approval of the Board. of
Supervisors at their June 21st meeting. This letter is
,to obtain certain information considered helpful in finding
reemployment for county men discharged from military service.
The service of the U. S. Employment Service along this line
was discussed, and for several reasons it see.;ed advisable
th:::t an effort be made locally to handle reemployment.
As a part of the compission's long—term plan,
it was agreed that officials of the county education,
health, agriculture, welfare, and pul-lic works departments
be asked to make recommendations to the commission for
necessary improvements. At the next meeting members will
submit written proposals,in outline form,as to a basis for
future plans.
At F,,rir. Randolph's request, Mrs. Smith agreed to
draw up the proposed questionnaire on. condition that it be
considered subject to change if desired by other members of
the commission.
Ix. Bush agreed to ask Mr. L. IN. Peterson of the
Charlottesville Chan-ber of Commerce for a survey of available
jobs in Charlottesville and vicinity in the immediate and
distant future, with the understanding of all members that
the findings of such a survey might go haywire with changing
conditions.
Mr. Shelton agreed to furnish 1;1irs . Smith with sample
questionnaires from other counties and advised Mr. Bush to write
PZr. Clyde Marquis, Orange, Va. for sample questionnaires sent
to Orange County farmers, industry, merchants, and residents.
