MINUTES OF MEETING OF BOARD
NOVEMBER 9th, 1944
At the meeting held today, Mr. Randolph asked
what further moves the commission could make while the
survey was being worked on by the civic clubs and other
members of this special group. It was suggested that as this
was an agricultural district that there was=..lots of work to
be done on the farms, and that as some of the servicemen
might want to return to farming, it would be a good idea
to try and find out if a man could make a living, raise a
family, and live a satisfactory life on a farm. As the
returning serviceman would have very little capital to
start with, if any, we wanted to know if a man could start
with little or no backing, and survive as a farmer.
Mr. Haden and Mr. Warrick knew of several
men in Albemarle County who had started with very little,
made a living and raised a family, and were highly respected
citizens of this community. It was decided that these
men be contacted and invited to attend a meeting and give
us some information on this subject.
The Secretary was requested to write a letter
to the following men: .
Mr. George T. Gentry,
Eastham, Va.
Mr. harry T. Bowles,
Mr. E. N. Haight
Mr. George T. Carr
Charlottesville, Va.
and request that they meet with us some evening in the near
future.
There being no further business, the meeting
was adjourned.. All members were present except Mrs. Smith.
