Mrs. Smith reported that the committee from the Council of Social Agencies might not attend the meeting due to lack of sufficient data, but that they would like to meet with us when they could give us the necessary information about a proposed home for the chronically ill. Mrs. Smith read the Planning Notes regarding the abendmeht to the County Planning Commission Enabling Act of 1936 which provided that "The Commission shall consist of not less than five nor more than fifteen persons, one of whom shall be the county manager, county executive, county engineer, or the county director of public works, where such offices are provided as part of the county administration, add one of whom may be a member of the board of supervisors. . . . . . . . . The County Planning Commission is authorised to appoint from its membership an executive committee, consisting of the chairman and not less than four other members, which committee mayeexercise between meetings of the commission all powers of the commission or such powers as the commission determines." The Commission decided to suggest a list of names to the Supervisors for appointment to the County Planning Commission. The following list was presented to Mr. Cockrell for him to give to the Board of Supervisors at their next meeting: Mrs. Gordon Smith for reappointment for four years. Mrs. Isabel Nunnally for appointment for four years Mr. Henry Haden for two years. Miss Mary Stamps White for two years. Mr. Pierson Scott for three years Mrs. Louise Simmons for three years Mr. Ed Bane for two years and two out of the following three for one year each: Mr. Ed Tayloe Mrs. E. L.Chamberlaine Mr. Lew Haden The present members are Messrs. Larned Randolph, Hunter C ockrell, Ray Warrick, and Henry Bush. #2. In discussing the different types of zoning necessary in Albemarle County, Mr. T. 0. Scott told us that in Wisconsin they had zoned against this type of land simply by refusing to build roads into these sections and not having schools available far the children, so the farmers were finally forced to move out of these neighborhoods. Mr. Scott figured that in these poorer land areas, a man could make a living off of three hundred acres of woodland whereas he could not support himself by farming the same land. Mr. Scott also told us that in some counties near large cities, the commercial hog farms had become quite a nuisance, hence the reason for Loudomn County zoning against such farms. Mr. Scott said he would contact Dr. Young of V. P. I. and see if he could meet with us at our meeting of April 25rd, and discuss the land classification. Mrs. Nunnally was instructed to contact Mr. Ambler about the Sate Highway Department laws concerning advertising signs as well as the number of feetvof right of ways owned by the state on each side of highways. Each member of the commission was asked to make up a suggested cutline for the necessary classification of zoning in this county and bring it to .the r,#p !i1 25rd meeting. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Secretary. Notes Mr. Scottreported Dr. Young not available but Mr. Farrar Shelton would attedd the meeting in his place. Mr. Amblerts office reported that the right of ways vary along each highway - but along Route 250 West the right of way extends 160 feetor 80 feet on each side of highway. This graduates down - but when a highwa y is rebuitt or widened, more footage is obtained for this purpose. The highway department does not allow any signs on rights of ways. They do give permits for advertising signs in sight of highways. Appointed by Board of Supervisors at April Meeting 1946 NEW MEMBERSOF THE C WISSION Term Expries Mrs. Isabel A.
