Mrs. Gordon Smith, who had been our able Chairman for the past year, opened the meeting with the suggwstion that a new Chairman be appointed. Mr. Larned Randolph nominated Mr. Henry Bush, and Mr. Tayloe seconded the nomination. Mr. Bush was unanimously elected as Chairman of the Commission, and Mr. Randolph was appointed Asst. Chairman. Mr. Bush explained to the new members that the Supervisors had designated the County Planning Commission as a body t work up a zoning ordinance for Albemarle County. As this has been the chief interest of the commission for the past year, an attempt was made to give the n8w members all the information we had on this subject. The zoning map made by our engineer, Mr. Harry Stahl, was shown to the meeting and a general discussion of zoning classifications ensued. As Loudoun County had adopted a zoning ordinance in December 1945, it was suggested that a committee from the Comm ssion get in touch with the Chairman of the Loudoun County Planning Commission and discuss the qubject of zoning with this Chaariman. Mr. Haden suggested that Mr. BusJz, Mr. Tayloe and Mrs. Nunnally be on this c mm ttee. His motion was seconded and passed and Mrs. Nunnally was instructed to make a Ate with the Chairman of the Loudoun County Planning Commission and have the committee meet with this Chairman. It was felt that a great deal of important information could be obtained from this Chairman as Loudoun County has a similar set up as Albemarle. Mr. Randolph moved we use the Loudoun County Zoning Ordinance as a basis for work on our zoning ordinance. Motion was carried and it was suggested that each member try and sound out the people living in their local area and see what their reaction to zoning would be, and report back to the commission at the next meeting. The second Friday of each month was agreed upon asthe fixed date for the monthly meeting, and the time 2:50 P. M. The question of the bond issue for better school program was brought up and the old members of the commission expressed the hope that everyone would vote for this bond issue although the commission could see the flaws in such a program. The c mmission had gone on record to this effect sometime ago. The issue is to be voted on on June llth. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
