HomeMy WebLinkAbout09 13 1946 PC MinutesALBEMARLE COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES OF MEETING September 13th, 1946 There were present at this meeting Mr. Tayloe, Mrs. Simmons, Mr. Scott, Mrs. Gordon Smith, Mr. Cockrell, Mr. Haden and Mrs. Nunnaily. xxx The Secretary read the letter from Governor Tuck which contained the s,.ggestion that the oil industries imprint on their outside posters used for advertising campaign suggestions as to the show places, scenic attractions, and historic ppots in the different states. Mrs. Nunnally was instructed to write a letter to the Governor stating that this planning commission wished to go on record as disapproving of this plan as they were not in favor of any out door advertising which would mar the beauty of the scenery along the highways. Mrs. Smith suggested that a co17 of the letter be sent to the garden clubs stating that we would cooperate with them in their efforts to eleminate rorFdside advertising entirely except where pertaining to directional signs. The school situation was discussed and Mrs. Smith volunteered to see Mr. Graham and let us know what the present status of the problem is. Mr. Cockrell reported that the School Board had requested a meeting with the Board of Supervisors. A report was made on the meeting of the C and 0 Railroad and Southern officials to discuss a joint station. It was stated that due to the crossing of the railroads the C and 0 engineers could not figure any solution to this problem. Mr. Haden :suggested that Mrs. NunnaJly contact the Home Demonstration Agent and go before all the clubs in the county and present the question of zoning to them and find out what their reaction would be. Mrs. Smith said she would talk to the Garden Clues and try to enlist their assistance in this project. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Secretary. xxx A letter was read from the Leaguehof Virginia Municipalities suggesting we attend a meeting held at Virginia Beach on Sept 22nd. The commission did not think it necessary for any member to attend this meeting.
