ALBEMARLE COUNTY i'LANVING COMMISSION
April 11, 1947.
The meeting was called to order at 2;3u p.m.
In the Board Room of the County Office Bui I di ng by the
Chairman, Mr. Henry Bush. Other members present were;
Messrs. Hunter Cockrell, Larned D. Randolph, F. Pierson
Scott, Miss Mary Stamps White, Mrs. Fred Chamberlain and
Mrs. Louise M. Simmons.
Minutes of the March meeting were read and
motion made, seconded and passed, after discussion, to
strike out as incorrect and unauthoritative the sentence
stating that the League of Women Voters favors a sales tax.
the chairman read a letter received from
Mr. Milton Grigg, architect, congratulating the commission
on its planning program and suggesting a further plan of
control for what he calls" the indiscriminate and unrelated
sub -divisions which are springing up in the county". He also
offered for the files copy of the Fairfax County zoning ord-
inance embracing such a control, which was enclosed with Mr.
Grigg's letter. It was decided that our secretary should
write Mr. Grigg an expression of appreciation for his letter
explaining that this commission feels It is going as far as
tixteeks it can go at this time and still hope to win public
r support for zoning, also enclosing to him a copv of the pro-
posed zoning ordinance.
The chairman reported on the hearing at Scotts-
ville on Tuesday night, April 8fh,on the proposed zoning ord-
inance. There were approximately twenty-five persons present
and little argument or expression one way or another, he said.
The ordinance was offered the acottsvilie Lions Club, through
Mr. Forrest foIr
ulett, a member, for study and discussion, and
suggestions zoning that section.
It was moved, seconded and so agreed that Mrs.
Chamberlain and Mr. Tayloe, whose terms on the commission ex-
pire this month, be recommended for reappointment for a term
of four years, and that Mr. Floyd Johnson, local architect, be
named for four years to replace Mr. Ray Warrick whose term also
expires this month. Mrs. Simmons was delegated to solicit Mr.
Johnson's acceptance.
There being no further business, the meeting
adjourned.
