ALBEMARLE COUNTT PLANNING COMMISSION
SEPTEMBER 18Tx, 1947
At this meeting which was the first held since
May 9th meeting, there were present Messrs. Bain, Bush, Cockrell,
Scott, Randolph, Johnson, and Miss Mary Sta mps White and Mrs.
Nunn Uly.
Mr. Bush called the meeting to order and the minutes
of last meeting were read and approved. Mr. Bush reported that
the Board of Bupervisors had requested that we shelve the
proposed zoning ordinance until a more propitious time, and they
expressed their extreme thanks and appreciation for the work #.q
commission had done.
The question then came up as to what the future
policy of the boamdssiouldhbaldnbe. That brought up the
question as to whether the members felt the commission should
continue in operation as some of the members had expressed
a desire to resign. These members felt there were other
organizations whose functions and duties overlapped those
of the Planning Commission - and that due to this fact -
the commission could be dissolved without any I= to the
community. Further, the duties and functions of the Commission
being of an exploratory naturewithout any authority to carry
through Un findings, it did not seem practical for the
commission to continue in existence.
Mr. Randolph and Mrs. Smith as well as several
other members felt the commission did have a definite function
and should be continued. They felt the commission could work
on a master plan for the future development of Albemarle
County. This plan would have all kind of possibilities and
should be developed by the commission. The members who
wanted to continue the work of the commission requested the
Chairman, Secretary, and other members who wished to resign
to continue with the commission until certain people could
be found to replace them.
It was suggested that our October m;Ming be
held at 10 o'clock on October loth, instead of in the
afternoon. This time was ageed nand the meeting was
adjourned. Vkll
