Mr. Johnson reported that he had approhched Dr. Mulholland and he had recommended Dr. Vincent Archer but he had not talkedto Dr. Archer. He was to report again at the next meeting. Mr. Cockrell reported Augusta County had I3assed a zoning ordinance and he invited Mr. Speck of the Leagus of Virginia Counties to tell us about this ordinance. Mr. Speck was most interesting and gave us quite an entirely different pciture of what could be dare abouta zoning ordinance without the approval of the public. Mr. Speck reported they had held two public meetings and informed the public of the proposed zoning ordinance. Then presented it to the Board and it was passed in spite of some opposition. The Augusta ordinance was modeled diter the Fairfax and Loudoun County ordinances. He stated that ninety percent of their opposition was from read estate operators. He told us that at the present time the following counties had ordinances: Fairfax, Loudoun, Chesterfield, Henrico, Warrick and Augusta. He stated that in any ordinance it should be stiated that if any section of ordinance is declared unconstitutional, it should not :affect the othersections. This is a precautionary measure and a wise one. As the provisions efO)zost zoning ordinances are elastic and can -be amended at any time by the Board of Supervisors, the public should not feel it is taking too drastic a step when it approves such an ordinance. Mr. Speck recommended that the County Planning Commission have a member of the City Planning Commission appointed to its board in order to work with the county on subdivision control ordinance which should be adopted with zoning ordinance. Mr. Bush read a letter from the Va. Highway Conference, and another one from Mr. Raymond Long calling attentionto the meeting, and enclosing a copy of the circular from State Planning Board. Mr. Bain promised to conjiact Dr. Weldon Cooper and others were to contact Dr. Vincent Archer and Mr.Venable Minor to find out if they would serve on the commission .. It was agreed to have the next monthly meeting on Friday, Nov. 14th at 10:00 A. M. in the morning. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
