Members present: gain, Tayloe, Chamberlain, Robinson, Smifh, Simmons, Birdsong and chairman Randolph. Upon i nvi tat ion of the commission there were also oresent Mr. William Speck, and Messrs. Ehristian, Grissinger, Kegley, Wingfield, Wood, Cocker.ill and others not identified but accepted as members of Mr. Chris+can's group, the Citizen's Protective Asso- ciation, newly formed in the coup+y. Mr. Bain, of ter opening remarks by ehai rman, r ead from the proposed tenta+ive ordinance. Mr. Keqlev suggested that copies of the ordinance, when it is f i nal I y prepared, be qi v(n out for the use of the Citizens Protective_ Association. In general discussion +he f of lowi nq points were brought out: Mr. Grissinger defilared +haf "they" were opposed to ALL zoning. That it is his idea tha+ if benefits +he.rich and not the poor. Mr. Speck explained i is constitutionality and its success elsewhere 'in Vir- ginia. Mr. Bain poinfed out fha+ if we strip zone Albemarle county, the Highway Department will send in engineers to survey and designate - center line for roads to be re -located in the twenty-vear road improve- mient plan and we wi I I have the advantage of knowing In advance where thev will go. It was. suggested that the, commission might place them in community locations where +hey vould be readily available. Mr. Kegley stated that while he felt it was necessary to have zoning regulations in sub -divisions "or ou v?nuldn't want to buv A lot", if the state hid+hwav deoar tmen t wanted to protect a strip along the highways i t s+nou i d buv the land from the owners. Mr. Randolph asked the zoning comma+tee to con+inue its work of praoaration of ordinance and publicity on zoni nq naeds. There being no further business the, meeting adjourned.
