(Comments concerning strategically locating one or a few hydrants throughout the subdivision) - Jay stated that hydrants should be provided every 400 feet (ISO standard) or not at all. One or a couple of hydrants would only serve to give the residents of the subdivision a false sense of security. It is unlikely that locating one or a few hydrants throughout the neighborhood would result in an insurance break for the home owners (possibly a small discount) . Jay stated that if only one hydrant was going to be provided, that the same level of service could be provided by a dry hydrant. (Jay doesn't recommend a dry hydrant, simply used this as an example) . (Comments concerning providing water service in the rural area) - Jay stated that if the County provides water service to a rural, subdivision this would open a Pandora's Box. Jay feels that other subdivisions in the Rural Area would then request similar service. The Comprehensive Plan states that Rural Areas should not expect the same level of service as the Urban Areas. (Comments concerning the fire fighting capability without hydrants) - John stated that if a pumper and tanker could respond to the call within five minutes and the fire fighting personnel is adequately trained, in most cases a residential fire could be extinguished. However, John pointed out that this subdivision was in Crozet's service area and the City does not send a truck out to Crozet's service area; therefore, it currently would take 15-20 minutes to respond to a fire at this location and it wouldn't matter if hydrants were available or not because the structure would be engulfed in flames by that time. *Hydra ants available in nearby subdivisions c, 0°; ti 0•
