EROSIO AND SEDIMENT CONTROL NOTES
1. ALL VEGETATIVE AND STRUCTURAL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL
PRACTICES SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED AND MAINTAINED BY THE
CONTRACTOR ACCORDING TO MINIMUM<S'TANDARDS AND SECIFICA'TIC_?S OF
THE VIRGINIA EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL HANDBOOK.
2 . STRUCTURAL PRACTICES
A. VEHICLE WHEELS SHALL BE CLEAN WHEN LEAVING THE SITE TO
PREVENT THE TRACKING OF MUD ON PAVED ROADS .
B. SILT FENCE (SF) - SILT FENCES SHALL BE PROVIDED WHERE
SHOWN AND AS NEEDED ON THE SITE PLAN. THESE BARRIERS
SHALL BE USED TO CONTAIN SEDIMENT.
3 . VEGETATIVE PRACTICES
A. TEMPORARY SEEDING - ALL DENUDED AREAS TO BE GRADED DURING
THE CONSTRUCTION PHASES AND NOT TO BE BROUGHT TO FINAL
, GRADE WITHIN 30 DAYS SHALL RECEIVE TEMPORARY SEEDING
WITHIN 15 DAYS OF COMPLETING INITIAL EARTHWORK IN
ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 02930 OF THE PROJECT
SPECIFICATIONS .
4 . MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES
A. CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE PLANNED SO THAT GRADING OPERATIONS
CAN BEGIN AND END AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.
B. SILT FENCES SHALL BE INSTALLED PROIR TO OR AS A FIRST
STEP IN CONSTRUCTION.
C. TOPSOIL STOCKPILES AND/OR WASTE AREAS SHALL BE
TEMPORARILY SEEDED AFTER COMPLETION OF TOPSOIL STRIPPING.
5. MAINTENANCE - ALL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL MEASURES SHALL
BE CHECKED AFTER EVERY RAINFALL. ALL STRUCTURES AND
VEGETATION SHALL BE MAINTAINED AS REQUIRED IN THE APPROPRIATE
STANDARD AND SPECIFICATION.
6 . PERMANENT STABILIZATION - IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING FINAL GRADING,
ALL AREAS SHALL RECEIVE PERMANENT SEEDING ACCORDING TO SECTION
02930 OF THE PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS .

GENERAL NOTES
1. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN ALL NECESSARY PERMITS FROM STATE '
AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES PRIOR TO COMMENCING WORK. THE OWNER
WILL OBTAIN VDOT PERMITS .
2. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RESTORATION OF ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY
THE CONSTRUCTION COVERED UNDER THESE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS.
9. NOT ALL UTILITIES ARE SHCJcN ON THESE PLANS. THE LOCATIONS OF ALL
EXISTING UNDERGROUND UTILITIES SHaWN ON THE DRAWINGS ARE PLOTTED FROM
SURVEYS AND AVAILABLE RECORDS AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED APPROXIMATE.
CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR LOCATING ALL UTILITIES IN THE FIELD.
_ K THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CALL "MISS UTILITIES" (1-800-552-7001) PRIOR TO ANY
CONSTRUCTION WORK ON THIS PROJECT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ALSO NOTIFY ALL
APPLICABLE U4NERS OF UTILITIES OF THE LIMITS OF IMPENDING CONSTRUCTION IN
ORDER THAT THE UTILITY COMPANY MAY SAFEGUARD THEIR FACILITIES.
4. CONTACT ALBEMARLE COUNTY SERVICE AUTHORITY 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE OF ANY
TIES TO EXISTING WATER LINES.
x 5. 'MINIMUM ALLagABLE COVER OVER WATER LINE IS 36 INCHES.
6. MINIMUM CLEARANCE ALLOWED BETWEEN WATER MAIN AND OTHER PIPE
SHALL BE 18 INCHES. +'
7. WATER MAINS PASSING UNDER SEWERS SHALL BE PROTECTED BY PROVIDING ADEQUATE . ,}
STRUCTURAL SUPPORT FOR THE SEWERS TO PREVENT DEFLECTION OF THE JOINTS AND ;,
SETTLING OF THE SEWER.
8. ONE LENGTH OF DUCTILE IRON PIPE SHALL BE USED FOR SANITARY SEWERS WHERE
CLEARANCE TO WATER LINE IS LESS THAN 18 INCHES. 4
9: ALL BENDS, WYES, PLUGS AND TEES WILL REQUIRE A TYPE "F" ANCHOR UNLESS
OTHERWISE NOTED. SEE DETAIL FOR SIZE.
10. ALL EXCESS DEFLECTION ANGLES (NOT MADE BY BENDS) WILL BE IN THE PIPE
JOINTS.

11. CONTRACTOR SHALL WARRANT ALL MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP AGAINST DEFECTS
FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR AFTER JOB ACCEPTANCE BY THE OWNER.
12. ALL CROSSINGS OF LAWN AREAS SHALL BE SEEDED, FERTILIZED, MLLCHED, AND I
RESTORED TO ORIGINAL CONDITIONS.
13. DUCTILE IRON PIPE SHALL BE THICKNESS CLASS 52 AND FOR A WORKING PRESSURE ' A ,
OF 150 PSI. . ,
14. WORK SHALL BE SUBJECT TO INSPECTION BY ALBEMARLE COUNTY SERVICE AUTHORITY {

15 . ELEVATIONS ARE BASED ON THE NATIONAL GEODETIC VERTICAL
DATUM.
16 . ALLOW ALL CONCRETE REACTION ANCHORS TO SET FOR 7 DAYS BEFORE
PRESSURIZING PIPE.
17 . CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES SHALL BE LIMITED TO WITHIN THE
CONSTRUCTION LIMITS SHOWN •ON THE DRAWINGS .
18 . ALL PIPING WITHIN THE PUMP STATION, VALVE VAULT, AND PRV
VAULTS SHALL BE FLANGED DUCTILE IRON PIPE WITH DUCTILE IRON
OR CAST IRON FITTINGS . PIPE SHALL HAVE CEMENT MORTAR LINING '
AND BITUMINOUS EXTERIOR COATING. FITTINGS SHALL BE ENAMEL
LINED WITH BITUMINOUS EXTERIOR COATING.
19 . PUMP STATION BUILDING SHALL BE A PRECAST REINFORCED
CONCRETE STRUCTURE IN ACCORDANCE WITH SPEC. SECTION 03410-
PRECAST CONCRETE UTILITY BUILDING.
20. DESIGN OF THE WATER TANK AND ITS FOUNDATION SHALL BE THE
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WATER TANK MANUFACTURER.
21. OVERFLOW AND DRAINLINE SHALL HAVE STRAIGHT ALIGNMENT AND
EVEN GRADE BETWEEN ALL MANHOLES , AND SHALL BE CLEANED OF
ALL DEBRIS AT LAST STAGES OF CONSTRUCTION.
22 . INITIAL FILLING OF THE TANK SHALL BE THROUGH THE 8-INCH
BYPASS LINE IN THE VALVE VAULT. THE 12-INCH GATE. VALVE
SHALL BE CLOSED. INSTALL TEMPORARY PRESSURE GAGES ON EACH
SIDE OF THE 8-INCH C,AT VALVE. THE VALVE SHALL BE
THROTTLED DURING THE 'FILLINGd PROCESS SO THAT THERE IS A
NOTABLE DIFFERENCE IN PRESSURE ACROSS THE VALVE. iHF
PRESSURE ON THE TANK SIDE OF THE VALVE SHALL ALWAYS BE LESS
THAN THE PRESSURE ON THE SYSTEM SIDE OF THE VALVE. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTINUOUSLY MONITOR THE PRESSURE GAGES .
WHEN THE TANK AND SYSTEM PRESSURES EQUALIZE, CLOSE THE VALVE
TO PREVENT THE BACKFLOW OF UNTESTED TANK WATER INTO THE
SYSTEM. WHEN THE TANK WATER HAS PASSED ALL BACTERIALOGICAL
