The purpose of the study was to determine the suitability of the soils for the disposal of sewage by means of a septic tank drainfield system. The investigation has consisted of drilling a series of seven (7) hand auger test holes to determine soil profiles on the lot. A log of each test hole is shown on the enclosed soil profile sheet. The approximate location of the profile holes is shown on the enclosed plat of the property prepared by Roger W. Ray and Associates. The holes have been flagged with orange ribbon for future reference. Also enclosed is a soil information summary sheet containing information pertinent to the design of the proposed drainfield. This lot is located at the intersection of States Routes 810 and 672. With the exception of an area in the southwest corner of the property, this lot is relatively flat with marshy areas. Several holes drilled in the flat area indicates a seasonal water table at depths that will not allow installation of a septic tank/drainfield system under the current Health Department regulations. Therefore, we believe that the only area where the soils are suitable for a drainfield is in the vicinity of holes 1 and 2 and 4-7 (see plat). However, a portion of this area has slopes that exceed 25%. Therefore, it will be necessary to obtain a variance from the county subdivision ordinance to allow installation of a septic field on slopes that exceed 25%. We also observed standing water in what you indicated was a ditch dug to help drain the property. You indicted that someone from the county Engineering Department had visited the site and had determined that this ditch would not be considered a stream. The proposed drainfield site in the vicinity of holes 1 and 2 and 4-7 should support the primary and reserve drainfield sites for a 3-bedroom house. A pump system will be required. Since, in our opinion, this is the only drainfield site on the lot, the house will have to be sited to it does not interfere with the proposed drainfield. The contents of this report reflect our opinion as to the suitability of the soils in the area investigated to support a septic tank/drainfield system under the current Health Department regulations.
