Hi Mariah,
Thank you for hosting the Zoom earlier this evening and for soliciting further input by email. I am an
adjacent property-owner and I didn’t make it to the top of the virtual microphone queue.
Hearing the stories from foster parents is heart-breaking and I can’t imagine anyone who would disagree
with their mission. I worked with foster parents (some of whom spoke tonight) almost every day during
my 12 years at Piedmont CASA and I have a deep admiration for them.
The nobility of a cause, however, cannot be the dispositive factor in an application such as this one. Like
other neighboring property-owners, we relied on the zoning and comprehensive plan when we
purchased our property. We value the agricultural nature of this area and that is why we moved here.
One of the last speakers in support of the application mentioned that she had lived many places, but she
loves living here because of the “calm scenery” that she enjoys in Crozet. We feel the exact same way
about where we chose to live.
Finally, I am concerned about the extreme breadth of the application. When Ms. Stevens was asked
about specific uses of the property for events, she stated that her “goal” was not to do X or that they
didn’t “plan” to do Y but they still need the latitude to do them in the future. As you can imagine, those
assurances are quite hollow to us.
Thanks very much for your time.
