Dear Mariah,
I’m writing this email in strong support of the Special Use Permit required to move plans forward for The
Farm Retreat in Albemarle County. My daughter and I are members of Reclaimed Hope Initiative and
have been recipients of their great care, supportive resources, and respite opportunities that did not
exist in our community until their formation. RHI fills in the gaps and has been a godsend to me and my
daughter.
The approval of the special use permit would be a huge win for me as a single mother who works full
time to care and advocate for my 4 year daughter who has severe cerebral palsy. Being her primary
caretaker is my highest calling, but it is also physically and emotionally demanding. Having access to
local services provided by The Farm Retreat as well as the day camp that could cater to my daughter’s
specific needs would change our lives by making caregiving more sustainable over the long term.
I hope you will share my sentiment and grant the special use permit for this much needed facility in
Albemarle County,
Respectfully submitted,
Taryn Spence, mother + advocate for Phoebe Joy
