I am writing to voice my support for the proposal that Reclaimed Hope Initiative has put forward. As you heard this evening, Paul and Bettina have shown tremendous care for the children and adults that they serve through RHI. I'm one of the parents lucky enough to know them and to have had my family supported by their work. If we had a little more time this evening or if I had raised my hand earlier, I would have focused my comments on three things: 1. The deep care that Paul and Bettina have shown us and our children, and the inherent need for the space to be peaceful, quiet, and restorative, suggests (to me) that they will show that same care for their neighbors and for the land. 2. From the first moment Paul and Bettina mentioned this property (and every time they have talked about it since!) the message has been the same: we want to maintain the existing character of the property, from the buildings to the landscape, and use it in service of children and families in this community. Their plans will not only enrich the lives of those of us who are parenting (and growing up!) through trauma, but will also enrich the rest of the community, too, as a community treasure is established. I even think (one day!) folks who do not directly need their services might find some measure of happiness knowing that we have such a resource in our community for those who do. 3. The location matters. It's not just that it's this great property and beautiful land. It's about proximity to families in need, proximity to people who need to fit camp drop-off into an already busy schedule, and making sure that the burden of accessing services is not a barrier for parents and children in need. In my mind, they have found the perfect balance of land they will love, space they will utilize, and the chance to have it feel like it's part of the local community. Thanks again for helping the county make good decisions about how we use land, and please let me know if you have any questions. -Scott
