Jan Sprinkle,
Chief of Zoning Administration
Board of Zoning Appeals
Albemarle County
Members of the Zoning Appeals Board:
I am writing to state that my wife and I have absolutely no objections to the
proposal of the Sullivans to enclose their carport and put an addition above it. We are
the immediate neighbors on the side in question, and therefore the ones most affected
by the change. From our own experience (we had our carport enclosed two years
ago, to the great improvement of our house's appearance), we feel the enclosure will
improve the attractiveness of their dwelling for the entire neighborhood. Currently the
Sullivan's house has a uniform roof the width of the house, with the far right side open
underneath for a carport; by enclosing the carport, the house would gain a uniform,
finished appearance from the front.
The addition atop the carport should not affect us. Currently there is a bedroom
in the gable above the carport, with a window facing our garage (nee carport), and it
has caused us no problems. Besides, with the Sullivans' existing maple trees, and
further growth of our evergreen hemlocks, there will be a year-round privacy screen
between the bedroom and our upstairs bedroom looking over the garage roof.
We support the Sullivan's request for relief from Section 13.3.
Sincerely, , 2,
n meek. Kevin McCrimmon
