Margaret,
The three types of solar applications I would bring examples of will include:
Solar Awning
Car Port
Standing Seam

OK. Those photos were helpful. Here's what I suggest. Make your application for the Volvo solar awning as a Countywide
Certificate of Appropriateness for a "Minor amendment to site or architectural plans". I will coordinate with the ARB
chair about setting a date for a work session to establish design criteria for Countywide Certificates for this"solar
awning" type of installation.

It would be helpful if you could draft a list of solar installation types, with images, so we could also ask the ARB if/how
they would like to proceed with establishing design criteria for the other installation types, as well. This would be
submitted separate from your ARB application, but preferably before the work session (the date of which I will get back
to you on).

Thank you Margaret,
Perhaps these photos will help you understand. There are triangular shaped aluminum trusses secured to the brick. The
solar panels lay on top and act as the awning roof.

Ryan,
Approximately 60' of the south end of the Berkmar elevation falls within the EC overlay, so the addition of the awning
does required review. However, it could qualify as a staff-level review. Is the awning made of solar panels?

Thanks Margaret,
I have pulled meeting minutes I found relevant to Volvo over the last year. This might help.

Ryan, I need to check the file on the last ARB review at this location. Only a portion of the site—and a portion of the
building-actually fall within the EC overlay. I have to run to a meeting right now, but I'll check as soon as I'm done.
Please wait to hear from me again before you submit.
Is the awning also solar panels?

Thank you Margaret,
I intend to submit our application tomorrow morning—FYI.
The entire project will have solar on the roof top, which is not covered in this application. Do you anticipate this being a
problem to only cover the awning during our scheduled meeting? Im simply trying to avoid confusing the point of our
meeting which is the awning.
The roof top solar will be completely hidden by the existing roof top parapet.

Ryan,
The ARB submittal and review schedule is available at this

s/Architectural Review Board Schedule.pdf
I think the best way to handle the Countywide CofA issue is to hold a work session on the topic at the same meeting at
which your solar array application is considered as a regular review item.Just be sure to include the request in a cover
memo with your ARB application.

Hello Margaret,
STS has secured a contract to build a solar array on a building within the entry corridor. The array will be roof top
mounted and hidden from view; however, there is a request for an awning which will be visible.
1. When is the dead line to submit an application to be on the next available ARB meeting?
2. I would like to use this project to also consider a county wide certificate of appropriateness for this specific type
of solar application. How would you recommend I structure the application?Would you recommend we
separate this project from the county wide certificate of appropriateness discussion?
