Box 910 Charlottesville, Virginia 22902 September 2, 1977 Proposed Entrance, Route 29 Virginia Land Company Hollymead Subdivision, Section II 1290 Seminole Trail Charlottesville, Virginia 22901 Attention: Mr. James M. Hill, Jr. Dear Mr. Hill: In reviewing more deeply the location of the entrance we reviewed the morning of August 15th, 1977, I find the strong possibility that the median cross- over in the vicinity of Maupin's Store may be removed due to inadequate sight distance on the southbound lane. This being the case, a more suitable location for your entrance may be north of that proposed. It might be more desireable for your development if this side road came straight into Route 29 as it could possibly cause fewer grading problems. In areas of 55 mph speed limits such as Route 29,current Department policy calls for deceleration lanes to be a minimum of 200 feet with 200 foot tapers. Also, if the entrance were located directly across from an existing cross-over without a left turn lane opposing, it is the policy of the Department to require a left turn lane to be constructed for the use of the development. It has come to my attention that a number of other problems exist with the present location. That is, a 4 foot by 4 foot box culvert would have to be lengthened if the fill were widened. In view of these problems not considered when we first talked about this location, it would be my recommendation that this entrance be moved northward to align with the enternal development. This, I believe, would be the most economical choice of the several alternatives. Awaiting your decision concerning the location of this entrance. Very truly yours, D. S.
