Re: ZMA 98-12
Forest Lakes South
Dear Elaine:
Based on our recent discussions, it is my understanding that staff is finding it difficult to
process the referenced rezoning application because of the uses requested at the end of
Ashwood Boulevard. The principle issue being traffic generation We feel that placing
small scale commercial and service areas within a neighborhood can result in a reduction
of traffic outside a community with potentially only minor changes to the traffic patterns
within the community. As you are aware the idea of mixed use is integral with the goal
of creating villages. Furthermore, the notion of the corner store or neighborhood church
is often considered a positive aspect to city life
We also understand the difficulty you have processing such a request when urban
planning goals and concepts conflict with traffic engineering goals and concepts.
Therefore on behalf of Forest Lakes Associates, I wish to amend the referenced
application to remove the request for these uses.
Sincerely,
Don Franco
