Subject: Covesville Store Variance
Hi Amelia,
We received your report in the mail. We are impressed with the way you put it all together.
Looks great!
We went to the Health Department today & viewed the "Covesville Store" file. We received
copies of the whole thing. The permit for the septic was completed on September 30, 2002.
Apparently it was a "new" septic that was designed back in 1990. We have the permit with the
drawing from the Health Department & all of the specifications. The septic was designed for a
previous owner, Sharon Milburn, who opened the building as a "Country Store" that dealt
mainly in food & beverages. The septic was designed for the same basic 3 uses, including the
PO, Country Store, & 2 Bedroom Apartment. I don't think Sharon's business lasted very long
& I think she moved to another state &left the building empty. The building was on the
market for some time after that (years?) ... was really starting to fall apart/rot. Judith
purchased the building & started working on it. Judith followed through on the same septic
design plan & had the work done. "Late 1990s", sounds about right. Judith died January 2,
2002. When we were "studying" the property, while considering purchasing it, we were told
by the Health Department that the work had been recently done & it was inspected, but the
paperwork wasn't completed/submitted, so the permit was still "open". We asked the real
estate agents to see that it was "legal" before our closing & they said they had to track down
the contractor to get him to sign something. The Health Department issued a "Completion
Statement" for the Septic on September 30, 2002. I hope this all makes sense. We can drop off
or fax any of this to you, if you would like to see it. It seems we are learning more each day!
We are planning on using the 5 - 10 minute video idea for the meeting.
Let us know if you have questions or advice.
We appreciate all that you have done.
