HomeMy WebLinkAboutSDP202100068 Correspondence 2021-09-06 Mr. Fritz,
Last week we received a letter in the mail informing us of a convenience center going in
on the adjoining county property. We note that this letter was sent to us and three other
households that are adjoining properties so directly affected by this decision. However,
this decision will impact a significantly larger number of members of the community. The
last time this convenience center idea was presented there was a public hearing at
Lane Auditorium and the room was filled with people unhappy with this proposal. Not
just four households. Subsequently, Supervisors determined to reopen consideration of
alternative sites for any number of reasons as discussed below; specifically Mill Creek
as preferable, which had been the originally proposed site.
Your letter also requires us to EMAIL our complaints, suggestions and feedback to the
development process manager. We would like to remind the county that this does not
constitute a "public hearing". We object to not having a public hearing on this proposal.
We understand it is much less time consuming for you to cite Covid as the reason for no
public gathering. However, the County building is open for business as is most every
other business in town. We have no problem with wearing masks and social
distancing. The auditorium is certainly large enough to block seats to accomplish this.
And we would like to add that your possible idea of zoom or some facsimile will not work
in our area of poor or no internet. We do not even have cell coverage on our property
and internet service is pathetic in this end of the County.
This convenience center should be located where it is convenient, needed
and in an industrial area where the roads support it. Extra bins could be
added to Scottsville, merely 8 miles from the Keene location and at Mill
Creek, where there are more than 6,000 residents with thousands more to be
added due to the townhomes being built there. It makes no sense to drag all
those residents and people either into McIntyre or down to Keene, causing
traffic congestion on roads not built to accommodate it. The Keene site has
poor access, not only from the west but also from the east, at an intersection
that has been the site of numerous accidents. This recycling area should be
located where the need is, not in the middle of nowhere, rurally zoned and
which is populated by only a handful of people.
We will all wait to hear from you regarding a proper public hearing date.
Hal and Barbara West
