Balloon Test
The balloon test was held at 9 am on Friday, May 30, 2008. The weather was very clear
with little wind. The balloon had to be launched from a location approximately 8' north
of the tower (1' higher in elevation) due to issues with overhead branches at the tower
location. The applicant is to provide an amended site plan showing the location of the
balloon launch and its relationship (horizontal and vertical) with the proposed tower
location.
The balloon was first raised to an elevation 10' above the reference tree. The balloon was
not visible from any portion of the I -64 right -of -way. The balloon was only visible from
the Route 250E right -of -way for a very short distance between trees, just west of the
entrance to Glenmore. Due to the lower elevation of the equipment yard, the balloon had
the appearance of being close in elevation with the Route 250E EC and sky -lit.
The balloon was then lowered to an elevation 7' above the reference tree. Although
visible and sky -lit at both elevations, there was not a material difference in the balloon's
visibility.
The lease area was not visible from the Route 250E EC of I -64 EC.
