Weather conditions during assessment: Overcast, mostly cloudy Reviewer: Phil Custer Quick indicators: The presence of minnows, crayfish, or flowing water during drought conditions will be an automatic indicator of a perennial stream for this preliminary identification. A photo- record or journal with a year's worth of data or more will also be accepted as an automatic indicator. Notes on Quick Indicators: In the plunge pool at the outlet of the road culvert, there were many minnows that disappeared underneath the headwall after my arrival. There was a clear presence of flowing water through the entire length of the channel. Other indicators: (use 1 for Yes, 0 for No) 1. Flowing water? 2. Springs or seeps? 3. No leaf litter in the streambed? 4. Drift lines or deposition of floating debris? 5. Sediment or debris on plants? _0_ 6. Riffle pools? A- 7. Sinuosity? _0 8. Bank -full bench? 1 9. Continuous bed and bank? _1 10. Grayish or un- oxidized soils in the streambed? - 11. Aquatic plants such as rushes, lilies, alders, green algae, etc.? - 12. Insect larvae or clams in the streambed? - 13. Amphibians? _- Total Score _6 of 9_ A score of 5 or better will be a strong indicator of a perennial stream. In such cases a detailed assessment should be conducted by a qualified professional. If this is not done, the stream will be considered perennial.
