That is defined by our leasing a portion of our residential dwelling for a period of less than 30 days. As you know we are residents of the property, but the County views us "responsible agents" for our home and property for the purpose of their regulations. So, let me clarify what's up: Since we inhabit our home on a fulltime basis, I hope you know that we will make every effort to be responsible. Per County instructions, I am to inform you that you are welcome to contact either Brenda or me 24/7 in the event of anything you may notice regarding any issue, action, or odd happening on our property that may concern you. It is my understanding of the adopted County rules that I will have 60 minutes from your notification to either Brenda or me to resolve the situation with whomever is living in the cottage. I pledge to do so. The property in question is an adjoining cottage immediately next to our principal residence. It was built in the early 2000s for my daughter. She lived there for six years while getting her PhD from UVA. Since then, we have had various friends and guests who have leased the cottage; some for a stay of only few days as well as others for a number of months. A number of the out-of-town folks who have stayed with us have moved to the area and are now bona fide taxpayers in the County. The County focus at this time is only on legislating, registering, and permitting "short term" guests, meaning those who stay in the cottage for less than 30 days. I think this provides the essential information I've been asked to provide, but I'm also including a separate form letter from the County that offers supplemental information. Further, you both are more than welcome at any time to come over and take a tour of our residence. If you have questions or comments, please contact Brenda (434-996-3369) or me (434-249-2091) Frank D. Cox, Jr. to: Bellave and Dr. Vidyullatha Shivaram 2161 Wingfield Road Charlottesville, VA. 22901
