Review # 1
Dear Ms. Gleason:
The Department of Transportation, Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use
Section, has reviewed the above referenced plan as submitted by Freeland & Kauffman, Inc.,
dated 11 November 2021, and have the following comments:
1. Please provide right turn lane\taper warrant, and if required turn lane and taper must be
provided. Please see VDOT's Road Design Manual Appendix F-pg., F-65, for turn
lane\taper warrants and required geometry. Please figure 3-1, for right and right turn lane
criteria.
2. Please see VDOT's RDM, appendix F-pg., F-90, figure 3-27, warrants for right turn
treatment. Please insert VDOT's graph into plan set, showing if a turn lane is warranted.
3. Please provide Intersection sight distance profiles.
4. Entrance geometry must be provided on the Site Plan. Note that the minimum radius for a
commercial entrance without a separate truck access is 42 feet. Please provide auto turn
lane analyses.
5. Please provide drainage calculations for new DI.
6. Please confirm and label on plans the location of existing right of way along Seminole
Trail Route 29.
7. Sight distance line cannot encroach upon adjacent landowner, it needs to fall within right
of way or subject property. Sight distance easement will be needed from adjacent
landowner.
8. The Standard Drawings contained in the VDOT Road & Bridge Standards are signed and
sealed engineering drawings that are copyrighted materials of VDOT and the
Commonwealth of Virginia. VDOT's policy is to offer the Standard Drawings in a secure
electronic format and each Standard is available on this website.
