Prepared by: Jonathan Showalter, PE Timmons Group 608 Preston Avenue, Suite 200 Charlottesville, VA 22903 434.327.1688 The Virginia Institute of Autism (VIA) is looking to expand their Hillsdale Site to include a second building to expand the school. This study is a supportive document to go with the Virginia Institute of Autism Hillsdale Expansion Special Use permit. The expansion of the existing Hillsdale Site will occur in two phases. In Phase 1, the younger students from the Westwood Road Campus would be relocated to the new building at 485 Hillsdale Drive. VIA plans, following a capital campaign, to expand within the building at 485 Hillsdale to renovate it to include an additional four classrooms that could serve up to an additional 32 students and 39 staff. The amount of parking anticipated for the Hillsdale Expansion was determined by the amount of parking utilized at the existing Hillsdale site and the Westwood Site. This study compares the amount of parking used versus employee present over a three-day period at both of the sites. (Refer to table 1). A max car to employee ratio was found between the two sites to be 0.83. The majority of parking needed is generated by the staff and teachers, and therefore this ratio was used to determine the anticipated amount of parking needed per employee for each phase of the Hillsdale expansion (Refer to table 2).
