Regarding: SDP2021.60 Albemarle fire & Rescue —
Take 5 Pantops Comment Response
Dear Mr. Howard,
Thank you for your review of the Final Site Plan for Pantops. We have revised our plans per most recent comments
dated August 13'h, 2021. Please see below for a detailed response to each of your comments.
Proposed height listed at 28 ft, keep in mind if this project goes much taller than the proposed
height, an emergency/fire vehicle access road/route needs to provide an unobstructed travel way
width of 20 ft. if buildings/structures are under 30 feet tall and 26 ft. if buildings/structures are
over 30 feet tall
Comment noted Building height shall not exceed 30'
2. Emergency/fire vehicle access roads need to be clear of overhead obstructions at 13 ft 6 in. and
bi.'.—
Pantops corner way will serve as access, there are not overhead obstruction.
3. To accommodate fire apparatus, turn radii serving fire apparatus access must be a minimum of
25 ft.
Pantops corner way serve as fire access.
Road grade cannot exceed 10 %
Road grade does not exceed 10%
5. Provide a nc plans of the required ISO fire calculation for the buildings
To be provided: 1500 gpm
6. Indicate on the plan the latest ACSW flow test to ensure adequate fire flow per calculation in
comment # 5
See note on Sheet C4
7. Provide the locations of fire hydrants as determined by calculations in # 5, with spacing in
accordance with the required fire flow calculation (This starts at 500 feet and arranged so that no
building is more than 250 feet from a hvdrant, but the distances are further reduced as the
Attached Copy of ACSA flow test to response letter.
8. A Knox Box will be required. Please place a note indicating this on the plan. The location of this
can be coordinated with the Fire Marshal's Office.
A Knox Box has been provided - See sheet C3
9. Fire suppression, fire alerting systems and other building design features, such as exits, interior
finishes, building access etc., are the purview of the building official and required as directed by
that offirr
Not fire suppression is provided. Fire suppression is not required in building official review/
building permit.
10. if fire suppression systems or standpipes are installed the FDC must face the road, on
address/entrance side and there needs to be hydrant within 100 ft. of the FDC, arranged so that
when hv_ drant and FDC are in use for emergency operations, hose does not obstruct travel way.
Not fire suppression is provided.
If you have any questions or concerns about these revisions, please feel free to call me at (434) 299-9843 or
email Justin Shimp at iustinoshimp-engineerinq.com and we can discuss any questions that you may have in further
detail.
Best Regards,
