Re: Scruby Property Cell Tower — Special Permit
SP-2022-00011
Review # 1
Dear Mr. Fritz:
The Department of Transportation, Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use
Section, has reviewed the above referenced plan as prepared by NB+C Engineering Services,
dated 5 May 2022, and offers the following comments:
1. Multiple places in the Plans show "755' 1" to nearest right-of-way line," measuring the
distance from the base of the proposed cell tower to the right-of-way for Route 690,
Greenwood Station Rd. Since the nearest right-of-way line is actually that for I-64
located 23'8" to the north, this note is factually inaccurate and should be removed. The
distance to the I-64 right-of-way should be called out in this manner, however.
2. The Department does not object to the location of the cell tower relative to the I-64 travel
way based on its height.
3. Please consider combining the service entrance with that for the winery next door.
Please provide a digital copy in PDF format of the revised plan along with a comment response
letter. If further information is desired, please contact Doug McAvoy Jr. at (540) 718-6113.
A VDOT Land Use Permit will be required prior to any work within the right-of-way. The
owner/developer must contact the Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use
Section at (434) 422-9399 for information pertaining to this process.
Sincerely,
Doug McAvoy Jr., P.E.
