First, rather than use the metal 9'x2"x2" 14-guage galvanized steel quick punch break-away post the owner wishes to install wooden post throughout the project to give the project a more pedestrian-friendly neighborhood character. Enclosed are several examples that typify the general style, material and design for these posts. Mounted to these posts, all signage shall conform to the Virginia Supplement of the MUTCD for Streets and Highways, MUTCD and/or the County guidelines. The second exception we wish to make is to remove the State Route Number sticker located on the bottom of the street sign. The reason is we feel this is redundant and not necessary considering across the intersection, mounted above the stop signs,there will be State Route Markers eventually installed by VDOT once the roads enter into the state road system. Please note,we will maintain the word "private"when applicable. Finally, the third exception we wish to make is to also omit the"blocks"(and arrow) portion of the street sign. The reason is we feel our layout doesn't'warrant the need for blocks, increases the length of sign and clutters the sign itself thereby detracting from the street name. With this in mind, we have explored the second and third exceptions with Andy Slack in E-911 and he appears comfortable with this but has stated this is ultimately your decision. Please also note, our request is not intended to deviate from the materials, lettering types and sizes, and/or physical descriptions outlined in Section 111.1 but just the post and the arm information. If any questions come up in your review please call me for clarification prior to issuing a comment letter or any determination.
